Ok pub food but not memorable

I booked a table but something had gone wrong and they were apologetic - negotiated a table with a promise to eat quick! Calamari with chips and salad came quick but chips were over cooked and salad was a bit slimey - plus it was odd to have pear and Parmesan with calamari! Calamari was ok but def from freezer to deep fryer. $26 was a bit steep but I guess it is the country. Ok meal but not memorable at all.

Great spot for a steak!

We dropped in here recently and were greeted by very helpful and friendly staff. We planned a steak, Scotch Fillet cooked the way you like it, I had mushy sauce with mine and chips and salad.. the staff presented this to the table very well and were happy to chat. Happy to recommend this spot..

The friendliest pub in Gippsland..

We just had a Christmas in July event for our club at the Meeniyan Hotel. I don't often write reviews, but I can't leave this one alone. The staff, service and food were exceptionally good. We arrived and the table was set up for a traditional Christmas meal and at the end they supplied us with Christmas Pudding. The staff were, as alway, extremely friendly and helpful, with Christmas hats to really help the festivities along. The food was wonderful. I go to this pub for lunches regularly and get consistently great food and warm, friendly service, but today they went above and beyond to make it great. Thank you to all involved for making it a great day. We all had a fantastic time and hope we can come back as a club soon for another lunch.

This pub usually has pretty good meals but last Sunday's was nowhere in that league. Ordered Thai pork and veggi spring rolls as an appetizer, which were burnt. We were told they normally come like that so the contents reached the right heat??!! Okay, I fell for that one. Then the Chicken Schnitzel, chips and salad came out. Schnitzel was burnt and sent it back, which was replaced by a clearly overcooked, almost burnt one as were the chips. At $14 and $28 respectively this was more like a street vendor meal from Melbourne showgrounds.

My husband’s meal was substandard, he ordered a steak with chips and salad. The chips appeared to be two different types of chips from the bottom of the bag. The shoestring ones were inedible like little bricks, the fat chips were all broken. When you add the knob of frozen garlic butter on top of the steak that wouldn’t melt, it is not a meal we are in a hurry to repeat. We won’t be returning.

Frightened and disappointed

I've always given this hotel top ratings but today was a bit bizarre considering we're in the middle of a pandemic. I was given a table and placed my order. After a couple of minutes some guy without a mask came and kneeled behind my table fiddling with his phone charger for at least 5 minutes. The staff didn't ask him to put a mask on. I got up to get some fresh air and while I was doing that another guy without a mask came over to my table and started talking above the table with his belly resting on the table. I opened the door for some fresh air and the first guy came and closed it. Then it blew open (not very cold) and the second guy came over and closed it. After about 3/4 hour I asked where my meal was and they told me it would be another quarter of an hour. That usually means they'd forgotten about the meal and if they hadn't the least that they could do was tell me that there was a delay. It was well over an hour in total before it arrived. The as soon as I'd eaten my plate was whipped away and the waitress said she wanted to "rescue the menu" then another one came to take the menu (it was a little while later as I was doing stuff on my phone, but they've never been so grabby before). All in all an unsatisfying meal. The salad was fresh and nice, the meat was passable (probably would have tasted better without worrying about people breathing all over me and my table). Did I mention that I'm vulnerable to Cov-19 in two different ways and rarely eat indoors but tried it for once. For me it was a scary and frustrating experience.

We are locals that are very disappointed

We are locals that took visiting friends out for dinner at the pub. Not sure what has happened to the kitchen here but the meals were not as described on the menu. The cooking was very average and the vegetarian meal had meat in it. Very bizarre indeed. I hope they sort it out as it WAS a great local pub.

Staying in Meeniyan for the weekend we decided to come down for a meal on the Thursday night.... it was fabulous! The gummy fillets were delicious, fresh and melted in your mouth, the pork schnitzel was also popular and very tasty. Service was great and a decent drinks list as well. Angus looked after us very well. Would definitely come back again when in the area.

Overpriced gloop

I ordered the pull pork burger. The bun was dry and stale. The smallest bun I have ever seen. There was so much sauce to hide the staleness it was dripping everywhere and ended up a mess. The chips were soggy and limp. All this for $24! What a rip off. Also expected country town service. It was cold service with a “I only work here” attitude. My friends ordered the Chicken Salad which they said was small and underwhelming.

Busy hotel so need to book

Good service. Has specials plus regular menu. Fish in beer batter was good. Husband’s roast pork meal was good but crackling was a fail as been fried. Roast vegetables were good. Desserts Sticky date pudding and mousse were good. Order early if lots of people seated at tables or as expected, will be a wait for meals.

Absolutely Brilliant Food

Although we were only one of three couples in the bistro for lunch, I am so glad that we were there! The food was absolutely brilliant. The blue cheese, spinach and pinenut gnocchi was so yummy. My husband had the roast pork dinner and was also very happy. The service was a little slow, but very friendly. I loved looking at the old photos of the area, and the fire was wonderfully cosy.

My partner and i travel allot, I also work away often, so we've experienced many hotels over the years. The Meeniyan Hotel stands up as being one of the best meals we've had in a very very long time. Al and his staff were very welcoming and friendly throughout night. It was a very pleasant and relaxing night. Credit to Al and all staff very for making our night very enjoyable.... See ya next time.

Friendly staff serving really good food

Our Saturday lunch was excellent. We were served by friendly and helpful staff. The lemon pepper calamari and rump steak were both exactly right. We've had plenty of very poor calamari it's not simple to get right, and this pub did. Seniors serves were both generous. We sat outside on the large balcony which was neither overly noisy nor crowded. This is an authentic country pub not the modern manufactured sort, and we were so glad we tried it. Like many other reviewers we found a comfortable atmosphere and good food - recommended.

Friendly staff Chicken parmies huge. Meals are very large, great value for money. Good variety of beers on tap and also have a cider. Serve all pots, schooners or pints. Well worth a visit

A must if you are in the area

Stopped in for an unplanned lunch after a long drive. Never been before but walked passed and saw some of the meals. We ordered fish and chips, Nasi Goreng, kids nuggets. None disappointed. Best pub meal ever
