We first dined here 15 years ago when it was The Seahorse, and trying to make South Coast dining a little more interesting and classier. I'm delighted to say after a very long break, we found that brief has been built on and improved. The food is superb, with plenty of interesting choices. We shared the ceviche as an entree, which was interesting but needed just a little more zest. But no issues at all with our mains - the fish tacos were awesome, as was the fisherman's stew. Wonderful, fresh seafood, perfectly cooked, and with great flavours. Serves were huge so we were going to skip dessert, which was disappointing as I wanted to try the halloumi donuts. As a dessert in a serve of 4, they're a dish to be shared around a table, but the server suggested I could try a kid's serve of one, and it was sensational. Coffee was good, there's a great choice of local and other beers, but the strawberry fizz mocktail was perfect for lunch. Best of all was the service - everyone we dealt with was friendly, knew the entire menu backwards and did everything they could to help. Food was brought out fast, cleared quickly, and as others finished their meals, tables were quickly cleared and sanitised, The need for gluten free for one person was instantly met with suggested choices and offers to adapt dishes. Due to social distancing you need to book - there's not a lot of tables here to start with and and the required spacing means not that many can be served at any one time inside the restaurant. But they're adapting by doing takeaways, and also offering coffee, pastries, burgers and fries from a hatch at the front door if you just want something to take down to the beach or park. A great location and a must visit restaurant if you're on the South Coast.

I find it difficult to decide how to rate this restaurant after my first visit. The majority of the food that was brought to our table was excellent but my main course of mussels in laksa was extremely poor. The lamb ribs dish was a smallish serve but was absolutely delicious according to the two people who had them. They needed the side of beautifully cooked whole kipfler potatoes. The fish tacos looked generous, colourful and flavourful and they produced very positive comments. The haloumi donuts (!!!!) were fantastic and served with a delicious anglaise. The sticky date pudding was moist and rich and swimming in a wonderfully generous pool of caramel sauce. Delicious! But then there were the mussels - big shells, minute flesh. The laksa was watery and totally lacking depth of flavour. It was served with nice toast which was the only satisfactory part of this dish. I have never had such a poor mussel dish before (and I’ve had many). The service at this restaurant was outstanding. The wine and beer choices were nice. The ambience is relaxed and pleasant. Everything is great.... except the mussels.

We had a nice visit to the Blue Swimmer today. There was a rather loud celebration at a nearby table (who can be too upset with a happy albeit loud group of diners.). It was hard to hear wait staff, but the young female server kindly repeated herself, and also wrote down the specials for us in case we had missed anything. ( this was a personal touch that did not go unnoticed.) The food was nice. The fish in fish tacos tasted good, as did the salad part of taco. Honestly though, it would be worth it for restaurant owners to invest in better quality tortillas. A tortilla press would definitely bring them to a new level. (I am a Southern California Girl, so I am pretty experienced with taco consumption.) The barramundi looked delicious, as did the pork noodles. The s hared dessert was nice, though at 17 dollars was a bit pricey. ( I did find the main meals to be reasonably priced). I thought the beauty of this place was definitely the friendly wait staff. I would return. … but I may not be running back immediately.

Poor service. The staff at this place have no clue It probably comes down to poor management. The only lunch sitting we could get was 2.15 We turned up thinking because we were taking a later sitting it would be quieter They jammed us outside right next to a table of screaming kids that had been there for over an hour terrorising the place. There were other tables they could have used which did not get used the whole time we were there but chose to jam us next to the screaming kids We complained to the waitress but there was not much she could do she just said yeah they booked for 1 and turned up 20 minutes late The food was ok but could not be enjoyed due to the screaming match. Wine that we ordered also never showed up They are disorganised and just don’t care about complaints or trying to work out what went wrong. How is it that staff can take a wine order and then disappear never to be seen again. The only thing this place gave me was a headache Disappointed We won’t be back.

Hey Glen, I am really sorry your experience at our restaurant wasn’t great. I can’t really say to much about the screaming children as usually we do have a chat to the table about noise etc but once we do this we can’t do much else. We definitely do take complaints serious and always pass on to our manager / boss and make notes after each day which then gets passed onto our kitchen and FOH staff to work on. I am sorry your wine never came I will address this myself to our FOH staff. Saying our staff “have no clue” is very incorrect as we never seem to receive this type of complaint. I am truely sorry and hopefully one day we see you again in our restaurant and change your mind on The Swimmer :)

We visited this great local restaurant for a family celebration. The food was first class and the chef should be congratulated, we have eaten at many excellent restaurants and the food at Blue Swimmer was reasonably priced and could have been served at Sydney’s best restaurants. It’s BYO with corkage being $12 a bottle but worth bringing your own wine. High chairs were available and children’s meals. We loved it!!!!

Our party of 6 were greeted by a friendly team and enjoyed a delicious meal beginning with a cocktail each, I had a fresh a zippy margarita. The simple menu covered all tastes and I chose the whole grilled snapper with asparagus and salad, so fresh. Others enjoyed fish tacos or lamb ribs. A simple adequate wine list and casual seaside atmosphere, friendly staff and the great food. Well done everyone.

We have been to Blue Swimmer a number of times in the past - always a real treat. However, to celebrate first day of permitted regional travel, we headed down to Blue Swimmer. We had a very very ordinary meal with very indifferent service - we felt sure that the restaurant had changed hands. I see from another recent review that the chef has changed which must explain this substantial drop in standards. Blue Swimmer, I understand that the last 18 months of lockdown has adversely affected many small businesses and I sympathise, but this is unacceptable. Please lift your game and re-establish yourselves as a delightful restaurant in a pretty location.

Bugger! We'd been to the Blue Swimmer before and always enjoyed it. Coming out of lockdown my wife suggested we go for breakfast then take a walk along the beach. Nice idea! However it seems things had changed - there was a new chef and a new menu. (In fact the old menu is still on their website!!) My wife had her heart set on the Bagdad eggs, but they're no longer available. Needless to say what we ordered was disappointing - my wife's meal was drowning in red onion and my eggs we're just passible. Sorry BS (Blue Swimmer) but you need to lift your game to keep you head above water!

My wife and I had soft shell crab which was average, the other couple who we recommended to go with us had scallops, very disappointed. My main was special pasta, you couldn’t make anything cheaper if you tried and it cost $ 34. The highlight of the meal was the baked potatoes! This restaurant was a great venue until the current owners took over and it has progressively gone down hill, the only good thing was the pleasant staff who would be embarrassed if they realised how substandard the food was. In my opinion the owners are in denial of how they have ruined a once good restaurant, perhaps they should move on and let someone else have a go!

Don’t bother with the cafe - over priced for unorganized service and meals. You book in thinking you’re going to dinner at a little restaurant and all you get is a cafe with linen napkins. Surcharges galore for Saturday (not just the Sunday) and when this is added to what are considered higher than average prices for meals of similar quality elsewhere its over priced. Meals didn’t come at the same time, one warm not hot and lacked flavour. Our market fish had no taste whatsoever - was simply bland. It’s got a wine & beer list longer than the straight at flemington racecourse but when you ask for something it’s not available. I get they need a market up on the alcohol but some of the prices again seem excessive. There are other venues across the region - pick one of them, don’t bother with here

We used to come here quite frequently up until moving overseas a couple of years ago. Now, we find the menu to be very limited, food average and prices expensive. This used to be a great little cafe. To say we were disappointed was an understatement.

This little local favourite sadly did not uphold its reputation this visit. Whilst the husband and wife team’s skillset does transpire to the flavours on your plate, it is dulled down by the service which is lacking a front of house and experience. Staff had little to no knowledge about what they were selling, from wines to dishes. Mistakes on ordering were costly, for example 1/2 dozen oysters arrived as a whopping £50 dozen. I didn’t challenge the mistake however when the most simple side order of well known potato hand cuts arrived inedible along with the croutons that should have complimented the swordfish, I prompted the staff to check with chef as these were letting his reputation down. What was strange was the staff stood behind the inedible items and said they had eaten them earlier today. Major mistake right here, if a customer offers you to try something they are disappointed in (which they have carried out to the serving counter), you discuss with chef as he would be trying everything before it makes it way to the pass and to our tables. Following the heads up about the inedible food items, having cleared our plates the whole demeanour of the staff changed. This was no light dinner stop, we had entries, mains, a dessert and tried to order dessert wine and port. Unfortunately the wine list doesn’t encourage you to stay past your main course and nor does the dessert options. What to do: • Fix your google settings, they show you are closed daily till midday so you are missing all your morning trade potential. • Re-train your staff / appoint Front Of House (Georgia was a good candidate) • Get surf & turf on your menu as a main • Source larger local oysters and bring 3 variations to them not just 1 • Remove prawns from starters and move to mains but grow the portion (the flavour was incredible but you lose so much of it to the shell, 1/2 the sauce into a pot for dipping & add a little side to this plate) I would make it chefs house special and as it’s currently top $ keep your price steady • Refine your wine list and make sure you are stocked up. Suggest having a specials wine board as this Team source from local specialist. Get your coffees, dessert wines & port on the menu. Educate your staff on the journey wine brings with the meal, they argued with me about Pinot Noir (which is served chilled), I had to add ice cubes to bring out the true flavours. • Change your dessert list, the rule is 1 choc, 1 citrus, 1 adventurists, 1 local cheeses • Kids menu, didn’t see it, do you have one? Overall: I’ll be back next year with my family and children to retry the experience, there is a lot of talent here that needs to shine through.

You are on a holiday, you wake up craving for a decent coffee. Walk up to Blue Swimmer and get your flat white. The first sip tells you how great this cafe is. As you sit and drink your coffee, you witness the whole Gerroa village neighborhood. The little ones walking down to paddle at the lagoon; the teens and young adults coming back from surf and the others queuing up for their morning brekkie. In Gerroa - do not miss this cafe.

With high expectations, having eaten here previously, and been impressed, and so many positive reviews we were unfortunately disappointed with our recent dinner. Entrees of chilli prawns and pork belly were disappointing with sauces that were thick (almost gluggy) and took away from the flavour of the prawns and pork. Mains of mussels, some still with the beard attached, and a clam and pork pasta, where clearly the sand hadn’t been removed from the clams prior to cooking, had the potential to be great. And a side of beans which were half burnt made half the dish inedible. A dessert of Haloumi donuts, while good just seemed to be cinnamon donuts. Not sure how the haloumi was used. On a busy Saturday night the service, while friendly, was not consistent. Blue Swimmer won’t be at the top of our list next time we’re in the area.
