Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just reading a few of the negative reviews and can’t believe that people would give this pie bakery anything else but 5 STARS. I have been driving over an hour to get these pies a few times a year for nearly 25 years. I am a very well travelled person all over the country and internationally and they are the very best pie I’ve ever had. It drives me crazy that people can complain that a plain pie has no taste. It’s a plane pie made out of meat and gravy for Gods sake. If you want a spicy pie or a flavoured pie than buy something else. One person even had an issue because they had no chicken pies,if you want chicken pies than go to a place that sells chicken pies but don’t rate this place lower because they don’t sell chicken You fool. People are so petty and so stupid. Taste is subjective and if it’s not the taste You like please don’t burn the business because it doesn’t appeal to you. At the end of the day these people Make Meat pies and they make them very very good. So anyone reading the negative reviews on this spotless awesome pie baker don’t believe a word they say and go take the time to drive here and wat the best pies till you can’t eat anymore.

I've been going to Blakeneys pies since 1999, so approximately 24 years. They have a good variety (no chicken or seafood, but nonetheless still a good variety to choose from). The quality of the pastry has remained a constant and the fillings they use are high quality, fresh ingredients. Some business reduce the size of their items or cheapen out on ingredients to save costs over time, but not Blakeney's. I'm a big pie eater and I've never had a bad one from there. Most friends I take can only eat one pie and are full. I've always eaten large meals (think 500g to 900g steak with another 1.5kg vegetables for tea) so I usually have 3 pies and a spinach and ricotta pastie, then I'm as full as can be. My recommendations, cheese n bacon sausage roll, mushroom, tomato and onion, works, chunky steak and pepper pies.

The benchmark for pies..I have eaten them all over Australia and am yet to have a better one. Real meat in the pies, not mince and they hold together really well as the casings are nice and thick. There is a full meal in one pie.

Small local gem nestled amongst the hustle and bustle of Melbourne Street, East Maitland. One of the best pies you will ever devour, if you’re a Maitland local and you have never tried one please do yourself a favour. A large variety of flavours and EFTPOS too! I just tried the Meatlovers and I was impressed, I usually go for a cheese and bacon and the mushroom is enjoyable too. Real steak pie with plenty of chunks and friendly service every visit.

My kids and hubby love these pies and my daughter travels from Rutherford to get their sausage rolls. So delicate in puff pastry and the pies don't fall apart while eating them. The pies are made with real steak and many varieties to choose from in the pies and sausage rolls. You wont be dissappointed.

So after being voted 1 of The Hunters best pies I thought I would sample their fare, I tried a sausage roll & a hot chilli pie, my verdict is ordinary the chilli filling was rather nice but the casing of the pie is the same top & bottom, I feel the top should be much thinner & light, even the base is a little to thick, the sausage roll is big the filling was not tasty at all & was very mushy like, I won’t be back.

Had a delicious works pie and ice coffee from the fridge. Great selection and friendly service. No seating inside and only one small table outside. Be prepared to take away.

Got 2 pies. Firstly loved the pocket styled pie. It ends there though. It was thickened gravey with no flavor meat. The plain was inedible. I go to one of 10 other pie shops in the area. Its a shame so much potential

I don't usually even like pies but these are amazing! the best pastry that doesn't crumble all over you and proper steak inside the pies. Fresh and flavoursome ever time!

I've had pies from here several times. It's your typical average baker on par with Darby's. For a good pie try kurri hot bread, bakers of lorn, or ridgey didge etc. In summary lack flavour, content, too thick (flour in the gravy) and don't do chicken pies. If you want a pie in a hurry and don't care what you get then this is your place, the staff are friendly and the place clean, it's just the pies that don't do much for the taste buds. So by all means stop here and grab a feed, I just wanted to give an honest review as there's way to much 5 star fluff on here that's misleading good people.

There is always a line up here when baking is on. The pies are hand made with the ingedients hand chopped and cooked in large pots in front of your eyes. No pies have been sitting around. I used to go there regulary when I worked at Maitland. He sells every pie he makes and the variouus fillings are all amazing.

Never had a bad pie from here. Cash only. Some of the sales assistants are fantastic and friendly. One seems like it’s a real chore for her to be there - shame. No space for eat in. Buy and run.
