Venice is notoriously difficult to pick a decent restaurant. Many go through the motions and provide poor quality food at inflated prices. Fortunately Gino's provides lovely fresh good quality food at great prices. The staff are friendly and attentive and the food is served promptly and hot. Great atmosphere in a café environment. Nobody grabs you off the street to... More

This was our last meal of our 11 day Italy vacation. We had dinner for 5 and the service was great. We had to wait for a table as it was full however it was worth the wait. We had calamari, chicken, beef steak and soup. All meals were excellent. Great value for money. And extremely helpful staff. Our server,... More

I enjoyed the chill and almost family-style atmosphere, and the food was delicious. Though it's a small thing, I loved that they brought out a small platter of crackers/snacks before the food. The service was good and accommodating to a single eating solo.

We found this amazing restaurant that was so good. The ambience was friendly and the food was always good whatever we chose as was the excellent red wine. Gino and Dino made us so welcome we went back 4 times in 5 days! Thank you for making our visit one to remember. Good luck for the future, Heather and John.

Our last night here in Venice and we wanted something close by that had a relaxing family feel to it with good food. Gino's hit the spot. This a small inside dinning space with an outside area to eat as well. It was a bit tight, but you felt like you where " home" which made it even more cosy.... More

I reviewed Gino's on here a year ago, when we liked it's tasty, straightforward food enough to eat there twice in four days. I won't be making that mistake again in a hurry. I don't know if it is under new management, or 'Gino' was away but this week's meal was really very poor. We shared a veggie lasagna (small... More

If you're in a hurry and near the train station, then yeah sure go. But don't except good, quality Italian food. We settled on this place because we just couldn't walk any futrther. Service was fine and plenty of food options to choose from, just don't get your hopes up.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
