Visited the restaurant for lunch this week as part of the dine out deal. Both service and food was exceptional. We hadn’t booked, but could see there was quite a few tables free outside. Although they were more than happy for us to come in,...I’ll be sure to book next time. Social distancing was excellent, with a outside order/pay point during peak periods. Also have to say what a fab job they’ve done with the outside space they had. Service was very prompt and friendly and the food was to their usual high standards. Have visited a few country pubs during the dine out deal and have to say this has been the most organised one we’ve been to so far. Will definitely be visiting again.More
We went today with two friends. We were made to feel welcome and the food was great. Good ambience. Lovely log fires. Thoroughly recommend to everyone
Went there on a Friday evening with a couple of friends at 7pm for a drink but there was nowhere to sit. Instead there were empty tables with 'reserved' signs on them. Felt unwelcomed if you weren't eating. Won't be our first choice next time...we fancy a beer on a Friday.More
Lovely country pub with lots of character, drinks prices a bit overpriced, limited wine selection. The variety of food on menu is good some dishes can be a little bland but overall quite good value. Side decking is nice and so is the front garden...but for the busy main road and the noise it brings sometimes. The service is generally good except for the EXTREMELY rood older butch looking woman ( I overheard someone call her Mandy) who absolutely ruined our families day with her pretentiousness and arrogance, she was actually very aggressive and confrontational! why on earth would a sweet little pub employ such a person to serve the public. I felt obliged to post this so customers can prepare should you decide to visit, it’s a real shame this was our experience.More
Came here with a group of friends. Food was great, very generous portions for very reasonable prices. Lovely atmosphere too with friendly service. Lots of people just having a drink too. Definitely recommend.
I went with my mum and 1 year old for lunch. We both ordered seafood risotto from the specials menu plus a cottage pie from the children's menu. All the food was cooked fresh, turned up piping hot on warm plates, including the children's meal....Our risottos were a good portion, cooked to perfection with plenty of seafood. The children's cottage pie was thoroughly enjoyed, it was home cooked with proper gravy, plus a great selection of veg. We were able to take the remainder of the cottage pie and veg home in a container they kindly provided, so I could warm it up for dinner. The salted caramel cheesecake was also very good and the service was excellent. If you are looking for fresh, hot and tasty home cooked food, look no further!More
First visit for me and my partner but the other couple with us live nearby and recommended it. We all enjoyed our lunch, 2 x fish pies, turkey roast and a cottage pie ( only one dish of vegetables to share between four, our only...gripe ) Puddings were also delicious and devoured. We recommend a visit to this friendly, great atmosphere pub and look forward to returning.More
We first visited here in March 2017 and after a long absence we returned on Tuesday bringing my aunt and uncle with us. We were seated in the restaurant area. The whole pub is immaculate and well decorated. There was an exceptional specials menu to...complement the classic menu. The food was exceptional. We enjoyed steak pie, swordfish, lamb shank and risotto .Everything was served hot and well presented. Fresh vegetables accompanied the meals and the portions were generous.3 of the party enjoyed traditional puddings with custard and I had a very good cheese plate. Service was friendly and helpful. A lovely way to spend a couple of hours on a wet and windy Tuesday .If we didn't live so far away we would visit more often. We made a special trip from London collecting my aunt and uncle from Grays to visit on Tuesday. Highly recommendedMore
Found this delightful dog friendly pub on an trip into the Essex countryside. We were made very welcome with our pooch. So much so, Daisy settled quickly and was soon fast asleep under our table in the bar area. An antcipated bar snack transformed into...an a super lunch in a very friendly and cosy environment. Scallops perched on black pudding with a peppercorn sauce were cooked to perfection, and the generous sized burger I'm told was excellent too. The pub appeared equally popular with lunch time drinkers. If you live close by, you are very fortunate to have such a gem in your community.More
