So upon my first visit I wasn't even greeted with a hello by what can only be described as the most arrogant barmaid I've ever come across in my life who was far too busy cleaning a wine glass. Then she proceeded to be really...snotty about the new covid restrictions that are not even in place yet. Didn't tell me where I needed to sit but again got snotty when I went the wrong way and then laughed at me. I love a village pub and the atmosphere they create but this pub is horrendous if you aren't a regular. Very unwelcoming bar staff it had to be said. Shame as this place was recommended as potentially being my new local but you can keep your hospitality or lack of it. I would never have dreamt of treating my pub customers like that. Awful. Do not consider a visit here. May I suggest some ettiquette lessons for the aging barmaid or possibly an early night.More

Had another excellent meal and a few drinks with the family. Wonderful time relaxing in the bar over friendly chats with Martin and Anne, the locals and the equally friendly young lady behind the bar before heading into the restaurant to enjoy another lovely Sunday...afternoon roast. Many thanks to all. Val and I are definitely enjoying having moved to Chartham just 4 weeks ago!More

Cod and chips: bone running through the centre, texture strange, batter soggy. Other meals were well received and enjoyed. Large portions at reasonable prices. Landlord a little over bearing, we felt pressured into deciding what to eat. Wouldn’t return. COVID measures were well thought out...for such a small space.More

The Smiths playing as we walked in. Gluten-free gravy. What else is there? Well-positioned for the Stour walk from Canterbury.

From the minute we walked in the door this was a great experience. Friendly staff, great atmosphere and excellent food. Nothing was too much trouble. We were there for our daughters 30th birthday and she was "serenaded" by the landlord accompanied by a member of...staff and a colander, great fun. We will definitely be back.More

Attended a group Christmas meal with a reasonably large party of ladies. Received a very warm welcome from the moment we stepped through the door which continued throughout the entire evening. Atmosphere was warm, comfortable and relaxing. Service was excellent, friendly and helpful, nothing was...too much trouble and the food was great. The landlord even took the trouble to introduce the chef to us at the end of his shift. If you are the sort of person that looks for faults in everything then I am sure you would find something to complain about, but this is a pub that is going out of its way to run a great business and give people what they want. It is not a fine dining restaurant, but why would you want a pub to be that way? It is a friendly, welcoming, good food pub and long may it stay that way. Many other similar local establishments could learn a lot from this place. Thank you for a great evening and a terrific start to the Christmas season.More

This has long been a favourite local pub. We visited last night for a pre-Christmas gathering. A warm welcome, including a roaring, real fire and friendly staff, was followed by a delicious three course meal from the Christmas menu. I'm a vegetarian and was delighted...to find original offerings. The chef surpassed himself with a spicy artichoke soup and a roast vegetable tart; plentiful, well-cooked food and excellent service. Highly recommended.More

Yes they are. When the was at the Artichoke a customer was there with his faithful friend. I asked the landlady about this and she told me that this dog was a very welcome visitor to the pub. Hope this helps.
