A typical english pub - good beer and good food. Service can be a bit slow when busy at peak times - but everything is cooked to order, so one has to expect that. The Butcombe loyalty card is a good deal if visiting here often.

Went in for a drink before going to the Oakhouse. Set in the heart of the village this is a real old traditional pub. The food looked great (next visit for sure), it was lively but with a real friendly atmosphere. Good service and clearly popular. Will certainly be back!

Visited last Sept. on a visit to UK from Spain. The food was excellent & the burgers are recommended. The staff & locals are friendly making this an enjoyable place to visit. Also the real ales are very good and the Estrella lager(Spanish) on tap.

We walked in here yesterday to have lunch and had to walk past the toilets to get to the bar. Unfortunately the strong smell coming from the toilet put us off completely so we left and went elsewhere. The menu looked good and just what we were looking for but couldn't bear the bad smell.

9 of us went for a family birthday celebration - one of our party is in a wheelchair. Access is just about OK, but very tight in the dining area. I had a pate starter which was OK but then my 'fabulous burger' wasn't really on par at all. I know that meat rich burgers can cook a bit dry,... More

The pub is very cozy. I had the flatbread goats cheese starter and it was excellent. I wasn't very hungry so I had a starter for my main. It was the west country crab on brioche toast. It was so good. The chips here are way better then chips you'd find in a normal chippy.

I keep going back again and again - do a lot of walking in the area and they never let me down. Good food, good atmosphere friendly staff and 'chatty' locals. Fish pie is recommended and Oh! yes and I like their cider.

Came on the last Friday of October having visited this pub last year following a local walk. We were reasonably impressed last time other that the bread they used to make their sandwiches but a bit disappointed this time. Food was ok but hardly anyone in the pub so atmosphere nothing special and surprised that the barman didn't know his... More

Great very old 'unspoilt' pub..well done Butcombe Brewery for not ruining what is a lovely old building with history. Well kept beers & a great bunch of very friendly locals who immediately engaged in dialogue. Downside, the pathetic little gas effect 'wood burner' in the inglenook in main bar, also an electric version further along in the dining area, really... More
