Azurmendi is underrated at #14 in the world. That’s it. Period. This was singlehanded the greatest dining experience we ever had. And it’s an experience. We started at the winery and then enjoyed a 4 hour lunch followed by after dinner drinks on the veranda....Go hungry and don’t plan to eat after.More

For many years we regularly visit the Basque Country and the heavenly places for dining in Donostia. This was our first time to Azurmendi, and for sure not the last visit. Great Dining -gourmet style with an extensive tasting menue. Every single dish: top and...simply good tasting. Not ver much to report its not only for the experiency, its simply for people who like eating and wnyou every finger licking good course. If you like fine dining, a place to be and to enjoy.More

I was like Alice who fell into the tree hole and came to a wonderland.Every bite is a story, every dish has particular and fleshy plots which showed unexpected, instructive and vivid artistic feature. From these delicious and emotional dishes,I have been tasted joy, passion,...love, grateful, adventure, even farewell…NO, I don't want to say goodbye. I love the background music here, when I put the frozen cider into my mouth, started to hear my favorite《Nocturne Op.9 No.2 E flat Major》of Chopin. These fantastic music was like the beautiful autumn scenery in front of me which sublimated my feeling about the art on my table. It was hard not to compare the total experience to Noma in Copenhagen. The inventiveness of the dishes, the playfulness of flavors, the honesty and nature of the surroundings, feeling the love in the food from the chefs, and the impeccable service....all at the very...top of all expectations. I cannot wait to return!More

This was our second time here and it was as magical as the first. Such an amazing staff both in the kitchen and throughout. Food was exceptional. Wine was exceptional. Staff was exceptional. Worth every euro. Thank you Azurmendi!

This is the first time I experienced a 4 hour and 20 minute lunch…and was sad when it ended! The food at Azurmendi is unique and sublime. And layered on top of the food itself is a dose of performance art which makes the whole...even more memorable. We arrived early for our 2:30 opening time lunch and so spent awhil checking out the garden and farm lab located on the roof of the restaurant. When our time arrived we were led into a garden like foyer and treated to a “picnic” served from a hamper and with a glass of champagne. From there your group is taken privately to a station in the kitchen itself and furnished more surprising amuse bouches. Next you move a food-lab-greenhouse section for more surprises. At last you move to “The Balcony” that is the restaurant proper. Seated in a glass room with expansive views of the valley stretching below the meal begins in earnest. 14 more courses unfold. I love wine and, naturally, they have an extensive list. But with tasting menus like this it is impossible to select a bottle which will go well with a series of diverse courses. Take the wine pairing option. This was to be the first of 4 3-star restaurants in 9 days; we took the pairing at all of them. Of course you will enjoy some of the many dishes more than others, but I can say honestly that there were no dogs among them. The photos included with this review are basically random examples of the delightful presentations. And when the meal winds to an end at last be sure to take the coffee it is truly excellent. I am a particular fan of experimental cuisine and love being deliciously surprised. In the end I have never enjoyed a meal anywhere more than the one at Azurmendi and I can think of only 2 in my experience that might compare. If you travel to the Bilbao or San Sebastian area book early and be certain not to miss Azurmendi.More

I had really high expectations coming here, as it’s regularly voted top 50 in the world, and to say it was not only the best meal I’ve ever eaten, but also one of the best experiences of my life, wouldn’t do it justice. I’ve been...to a few 1 and 2 Michelin starred places but this was on another level to them. A few things weren’t to my taste but that was only purely a personal thing, I knew they were cooked incredibly well. Can’t say anymore other than it was an extraordinary experience, absolutely breathtaking food and absolutely faultless evening. Even though it might be deemed expensive, if the bill was 10 times what it was, I would have paid it comfortably it was that spectacular.More

The restaurant is claiming to be at the top of it's game and it did start that way. Prior to going to the table we had the journey through the greenhouses and the kitchen to show case some clever skilled culinary experiences. The main dishes...were well executed and showed levels of skills. Although we couldn't fault any of the dishes we didn't have any real stand out memorable courses. The service was let down towards when the waiter completely inverted the red wine bottle shaking it to get all the contents out, including the sediment. When i stated that I'd not seen this done in a gastropub let alone a 3 Michelin star restaurant his response was to say "sorry, but its a young wine". He then took it away and poured the contents into a new glass still with some sediment. HOW can this happen at this level, surely a sack able offence and spoilt the evening. The maître d' did follow it up with an alternative free glass of wine, definitely not a Michelin star standard response. In conclusion food good but not god front of house. 3 starr quality food, gastropub standard of service nMore

This has been a pretty perfect experience. Tastes are incredible. Blew us away from the picnic to the coffee. No doubt one of the absolute best restaurants.

Quite informal, I'd say smart casual. We even saw a guy in shorts, sandals and t-shirt - but that was downright disrespectful to both the restaurant and other guests.
