MICHELIN
View more on MICHELIN Guide
Our cuisine is and always has been based on traditional Catalan cooking and the finest seasonal local produce. The commitment also comes Km 0 to bread and pastries, prepared by ourselves. We take advantage of new techniques to bring traditional dishes constantly up to date.
1 MICHELIN Star: High quality cooking, worth a stop!
This restaurant has played an important role in the history of Costa Brava tourism. It occupies an old yet attractively restored farmhouse with a luxuriant garden-terrace for the summer months, an R&D space where new dishes are created, plus a bright, Mediterranean-inspired interior. Chef Marc Gascons and his sister Elena (front of house) are responsible for the entire experience here, which revolves around an extensive and up-to-date Ă la carte of traditional Catalan cuisine and the best local ingredients sourced from nearby producers and the superb fish auction in PalamĂłs. Two interesting set menus (one short, seasonal option, plus a tasting menu) are also available. One of the most requested dishes here is the tartare of PalamĂłs prawns, which comes with different garnishes depending on the season. Guests who drive here are given a code for the external car park, which now has charging points for electric vehicles.

We came back to this star that we discovered a few years ago. Welcomed and served by a team of true professionals, we discovered a menu enriched with new products that are both interesting and delicious. Yet I remain a little surprised by the fact that we could not get a table in the main room when it was empty when we arrived. As suggested by one of your previous reviewers, it's because we are tourists...and it's a shame and surprising, especially when we booked for more than 10 days.

The tasting menu is brilliant as always including excellent service from well trained staff. The wine package is really amazing and shows the level of the sommelier. We will be back ... again and again ...

I wanted to go, but I was lazy, as I had received opinions and all of them different. We were received quickly, we chose the tasting menu and we liked it very much, the dishes well presented and good tasting. What we didn’t like were the wines we were served in each dish, if we came back, I would choose a wine from the menu.
The staff was attentive, the girl who served us had no experience, but tried hard and did the best she could

Disappointed. We visited this restaurant for more than 20 years with the family. We believe that it will be difficult to maintain the Michelin Ace, as this requires a higher level of attention and service than received. The unkindness in the reception and table assignment in the main hall surprised us. Although we explicitly requested at the Reservation made three weeks in advance a location next to the window, the room manager and owner of the restaurant indicated that in August no miracles can be performed (? ). The requested time was 21:00. The final assigned location was next to the kitchen door and I spent all dinner watching people leave and enter the kitchen and doors moving continuously. With regard to the quality of the dishes we must emphasize that everyone scratched at high altitude, as always. Regarding the service, we observed the null explanation of the dishes when serving them at the table and I had to request that I wanted bread since no one served it to me. Regarding gluten, they showed correct sensitivity. Therefore, we will return when it is not August, hoping that the comment note will be taken into account and the tables will not be allocated according to the requests as the diners arrive or are known and preferred by the room manager. By the way, leaving the restaurant did not even delight us with a thank you and good night. He made mutis through the forum, passing half a meter from it. I was supposed to have a bad night, but it was really nasty.

Buenas tardes Sr. Josep. B,
Atentamente
Elena Gascons

We have arrived on time at 2pm, and until 2.55pm we have not been served even though they knew we were going to make the tasting menu. They justified this by saying that several tables were late. Worse, they are affected, not us. By 2.55pm we had already eaten all the bread and half a bottle of wine which then took its toll. We will not return, and we will not recommend it

The restaurant was a mixtape of good and bad. For context our reservation was very late and this may explain some of the less pleasant experiences. On entry we received a frosty reception rather than a warm welcome. Then we had to wait for 20 minutes for the head waiter to collect our drinks and food order. The rest of the service we received was excellent though. The wine we had was great and very reasonable.
The food was on the whole excellent with goat, beef wellington and sea bass dishes all outstanding. The soufflé we had was very poor and felt like scrambled egg. The prawn dish was very poor value with just 4 prawns offered, it was really not a main course at all.
The other thing that was strange was that there were no vegetables with some of the dishes and no sides on the menu.
The biggest disappointment was that we weren’t allowed to have the menu that was offered on the website. We were told that it was because we didn’t book this when making the reservation but that was not mentioned on the website.
So in conclusion we felt a little let down by certain elements but still enjoyed the restaurant. With a few small differences this would have been an outstanding meal.

Returning to this restaurant after twenty years has been like reuniting with an old friend who, far from aging, has improved over time. If at the time it had an exceptional level, now you can see that they have been able to take care of every detail, and even the dining experience seems to have evolved. Here, the product is the absolute protagonist: everything of proximity, season and quality, without tricks or excesses. They serve you with an elegant style, making you feel welcome, but always with a touch of distinction.
We opted for plates to share, and I must say it was a very good decision because everything was spotless. We fell in love with potato gnocchi with butter sauce and Imperial caviar, sweet and tasty, with that right point of butter that made them irresistible. A perfect combination of textures and flavors that seems simple, but you can tell it is very well worked. But if you have to talk about the jewel of the night, the chargrilled turbot takes the prize. With its ember point, tender and well juicy, turbot had a spectacular flavor, those that make you enjoy every bite and leave you a memory of subtle fire that is appreciated.
And for wine lovers, here’s an impressive menu: there are options for everyone, with labels everywhere, but not forgetting local wines.

Summer tasting menu simply impeccable from start to finish, in the line of excellence of this authentic temple of Catalan and empordanese cuisine. It is not usual to do so, but I want to highlight the exquisite treatment of Marc G., always attentive so that we did not lack anything at any time and absolute professionalism. The Michelin star is also earned with such efficient, young and smiling staff. Felicitats famĂlia Gascons i fins ben aviat!!! ;-)

Beautiful restaurant
Impeccable service
Food was excellent
But..
being charged for appetisers and petit fours(€29 total) when they were not ordered seems excessive ,especially bearing in mind all the prices were astronomical.
2 courses each (2 people)
1 Gin and tonic
2 wines
1 Coke
1 Beer
€204.40
(Note these were probably amongst the cheaper items on the menu )
Good food -yes
Worthy of the price tag -doubtful
Also, daily menu while being on the website was not available due to Christmas …on the 5th of January .??

We went without any reference and without knowing that it was a Michelin Ace. We also had no Reservation but we were properly served.
Place with pretensions and with that mixture of professionalism and coldness that characterizes restaurants of a certain level.
Very nice surroundings as well as the interior. The food doesn't disappoint, it's up to scratch. In particular cannelloni and dried rice, a successful creation. Fantasy desserts.
Excellent wines we chose, a white grenache 'Terra Alta' that respects the D.O. and a xarelo Penedés that awakens the imagination.
The price corresponds to what they offer you.

We had dinner with 4 during our stay in Catalonië. The welcoming was very friendly and professional. We had a table in the middle of the restaurant which was a bit loud. All the dishes that we had from the beginning to end were lovely, delicious and looked beautiful. However: unfortunately we can not say this about the service. Sometimes fork and knife in between were thrown on the table as service was extremely busy and they could not follow. The bottle of wine we ordered was poured by ourselves. Staff was extremely stressed out because of the maitre/lady of the house (?) was yelling, rolling her eyes and pushing everyone of her team to an edge. She only presented herself a couple of times at tables that were clearly more important guests than us and as a former maitre myself this bothered me and the rest of the table. 4 stars for food, 1 for service.

My wife visited as a treat while holiday at Platja D’Aro a change from the bustle of the Main Street. A beautiful location, great food, attentive service and light feel to the interior suiting its location on the Costa Brava. The amusée bouche included some fantastic olives and a light, refreshing gazpacho. Our fish mains were great and as for ham D.O. Jabugo ham entree…perfect.

The place is very nice and the decor unbeatable. The right service. The surprise was with the food. All very well presented and every dish worthy of photography. But the surprise is that both I and the diners have appreciated the food lacks that point of taste and smell and does not have it in practically everything we have eaten. All quite tasteless, I insist that the visual aspect of each dish unbeatable but the taste very little worked as well as the smell of each dish.

First of all I want to make clear that I already did many Michelin star restaurants
and with many I mean more than 30 all over Europe.
I never saw I Michelin star restaurant like this, for me they don't deserve a star.
Not in service and kindness not for the location nor for the food.
Don't understand me wrong the 3 criteria's I just mentioned were not terrible but not
at the level you would expect of a Michelin restaurant but more of a cossy brasserie.
The service:
We are entering the restaurant, and we don't even reserve a hello or in this case Hola, I need
to say hello first, we made the reservation at 8 pm, and we had to wait until 8:10 in the lobby
because not everything was ready for the service...
After we were place at the most horrible place of all the restaurant in front of the kitchen door
were every waiter of the restaurant passes, it's like a highway in the restaurant not quite
reposing.
When waiter are bringing the plates no explication, when they bring the wine of the pairing no explanation.
Not ok for that kind of restaurants.
The location:
Large hall with lots of tables, not what you are used of a exceptional restaurant.
When it gets full during the evening you can almost not hear what the person in front of you
is telling you.
Not great in my opinion.
The Food:
Nothing exceptional, not even gastronomic. They are using exceptional production names on the menu but the cheap versions.
We took the conchies with caviar (extra of €12 in the menu), conchies was simple potato puré nothing special and when I asked
where the caviar was coming from (as it was not tasting like caviar) the waiter was not able to answer me and had to ask the kitchen.
It seemed that the caviar was Chinese... so we are in Europe were we have tasteful and caviar full quality, and they are buying Chinese stuff.
Also the fish that was baked on the bbq had not the taste of bbq and was clearly baked in butter, full of bones.
When baking a fish on the bone and serving it like this it's always better to mention it on the menu.
So to resume; nothing exceptional only the price (€520 for 4 personnel) you better go to a local brasserie
or little traditional restaurants if you look for special tastes.
