About

I came here because I'd seen it featured in one of the late great Anthony Bourdain's shows. He raved about the risotto. And then I read up on it and realized it's a Burano institution. As a single diner I also came prepared to be told the risotto can only be prepared for two people. But the waiter checked with the kitchen and they agreed to make one of the three risotto dishes, the shrimp one, for one person. Jackpot! It was everything I'd hoped it would be. Creamy and fresh like the sea. Maybe the best risotto I've ever had. I also enjoyed the octopus appetizer.
Though the AC was excellent inside, I chose to sit outside, and was made to feel very comfortable in these crazy Covid times. Staff were friendly and accommodating. I can't imagine how challenging it must be for them these days. This was a lovely lunch and I hope to return some day soon.

We made a special effort to get to Da Romano when we visited and I'm so glad we did. We shared an appetizer of mantis shrimp and their famous risotto for three and it was delicious. Their house white wine is a fantastic local Veneto wine. It was warm enough to sit outside in the sun and it was a lovely way to pass the afternoon, eating delicious food and soaking up colorful, charming Burano. They were closed for vacation the week before our trip, so we couldn't make a reservation, but they were able to seat us immediately when we arrived around 1:30. Definitely seek them out if you visit Burano.

I tried booking this restaurant for lunch before I came to Italy, without success. They told me in one email that they only had lunch times available, I replied to to confirm I wanted a reservation at 2.30pm on Saturday. They then replied that they were fully booked.
I decided to go at 2.30pm on the Saturday anyway and was sat down straight away without referring to our email correspondence.
The caprese salad to start was amazing! So many fresh tomatoes and huge ball of mozzarella with olive oil and basil leaves. Starters are definitely big enough to share.
We’d seen what a couple next to us were eating and decided to order the same. We ordered a small sea bass, paid by the 100g and small amount of monk fish paid by the 100g. When it arrived it was a big sea bass and no monk fish. We pointed this out to them, I think the monk fish genuinely just got missed with language barrier.
They offered to cook some monk fish but we felt we had enough sea bass and didn’t want to hold up our meal.
The sea bass was fabulous, grilled and crispy on the outside and perfectly cooked, with roasted vegetables and potatoes.
When we ordered another glass of wine each, with a waiter who spoke more english, although he took our order, he totally forgot to bring it. We’d finished our food by this time so never chased it up.
The bill arrived and it was more expensive than we normally pay for lunch but overall it was just about value for money given the restaurant and the excellent food. The Sea Bass was over €80 euros, so our small sea bass was clearly a big one, weighing in at nearly 800g. If I’d seen it on the menu at €40 per person for main meal, I wouldn’t have ordered it for a lunch. However, it was one of the best meals I’ve had in Italy so far.
Overall I’d say 5 for food, 3 for service and 4 for value. We would eat here again but suspect we won’t be dropping in to Burano anytime soon, despite how beautiful the island is.
Tip - if going for fish by weight, see the fish in advance and ask how heavy, if you want smaller ask for it. This Is standard practice but we just forgot and got carried away with the moment thinking we’d been understood.

Yes, the risotto is great. Now that’s out of the way I think it’s fair to say that everything else is rather unpleasant. Poor and expensive service ( the waiters were rude and paying special attention to older white gentlemen while trying hard to ignore our gaze. Oh, and that’s 7€ service fee please and don’t forget these 4 additional euros for the water) , tables so close together you can barely sit without touching a stranger ( could be a plus if you’re into it but not for me) and overpriced … well everything. We had better and least expensive fried and grilled seafood pretty much all around Venice. So if you’re a foodie, you saw the great mr. Bourdain go to that place and it was all rainbows and you want the same experience- think again. Unless you’re famous I guess.

This superb Trattoria has been serving wonderful seafood for over 100 years. Four generations of a family with a strong passion for cooking good food and offering exquisite service to its customers. Fresh local seafood and produce prepared with traditional recipes. Homemade desserts. Everything is good, but the risotto is exceptional.

We came over to Burano to eat here as we saw it the previous year. It is in the main street a few minutes walk from the boat. The restaurant is very large and very popular both with locals, italians and tourists alike. On entry we were seated quickly. The waiter was very pleasant and advised us on the food. The service was a little on the slow side and we had to attract attention a few times. Being super critical my sole was plentiful but a little overcooked. The place was now full. At the end of the meal we had a walk around looking at all the photos taken with celebrities over the years. And then a short walk back to the boat.

Such a spectacular dinner from start to finish! Daniele, our server was so delightful and thoughtful and helped us order some extraordinary dishes that were out of this world. He truly made this night magical. Absolutely must order the risotto romano and the sardines with polenta! The wine list is so reasonable and some of the best from the region are offered at such reasonable prices. This spot is a MUST when in the Veneto region.

My new favourite place!
We've had the best lunch here while in Venice.
Our waiter was a young man, very kind, attentive, and the food was just beyond delicious.
The offer vegan and gluten free options as well.
While having our cappuccino's after our meals, the owner of the restaurant came to me and asked if everything was ok which I thought was very thoughtful.
This will definitely be on my list to go to when visiting Burano next time.

We decided to try out this restaurant, to enjoy the beautiful Burano, however it only ruined our night. The restaurant is purely touristy, taking advantage of the tourists who may not be well informed of the area, by placing extremely high prices on very low quality food. We had looked at the reviews, and the restaurant was highly ranked, and thus we thought we would give it a try. We ordered a typical Venetian appetizer to share, which was tasteless. The shrimp and the baccalà mantecato (cod) tasted like the one you buy in the supermarket. While the muscles and clams had no taste at all. We then decided to get a risotto with scampi (shrimp) which again was a huge disappointment, as you could barely taste the fish. We then decided to end the night here since we did not want to waste any more money on the food. When the check came (20 minutes late) we were shocked. We had shared on appetizer, ate two risottos and just had water and ended up spending 100 euros! A complete joke.
I do not recommended at all this restaurant. Poor food, service and crazy high prices. Burano is a beautiful little village, don’t let an unpleasant dinner ruin it for you.

I had been here 2 times before and it has always been an incredible and memorable experience. This 3rd experience was the best yet, partly because of the new dishes I tried but mostly because our server Daniele did an incredible job. He recommended various dishes that were outstanding as well as wine that went perfectly with our food. He invited us to watch the chef toss our risotto (best i've ever had) 3 or 4 feet in the air in a theatrical motion. And in the end of the meal would not accept tip. I could not possibly recommend this restaurant to a higher degree. Great experience!

I can’t make up my mind which I liked better-your risotto or seafood. It was the first time my parents have eaten risotto and I feel bad that any future risotto they eat elsewhere will never be up to standard.
And I love seafood and do eat quite a bit of seafood usually. But I never knew sardines, prawns and squid could be so naturally sweet!

This restaurant is a classic. Our impression of it has remained constant over several visits. Tha ambiance is charming, featuring walls filled with art. The wine and food menus are substantial, the latter offering a vast variety of Venetian fare. We found the Fritti Misti particularly good. Service is cheerful and thoroughly professional. We will continue to make this a regular stop when we visit Burano.

We have visited Burano while our short trip to Venezia, and my wife found some information about the Burano isle. It was all fantastic. Our visit in this beautiful trattoria was pure luck as we were searching some place for feeding our little girls. The place looked nice so we entered even thought the prices on the menu were higher than the restauratns around, anyway, we liked the place. And it was the best experience during our stay in Venice! We had very kind and professional waiter, not too young, he helped us with food for kids which is always problem as they dont want to eat everything we would want:). Kids had fish and me and my wife had spaghetti vongole as we love them an we ate it many times while were in Italy. It was beyond our expectations and after gelato, tiramisu and a torta (which is my wife mentioning every day), we were very satisfied and happy with this place. We definitely plan to come back. Thanks!

Gentilissimo Tommaso
GRAZIE, GRAZIE, GRAZIE!!!

We had heard about Da’Romano’s a few years ago on a Food Network show all the way back in our home of Alaska! We knew that we were coming to Venice so I planned to try to get in while we were there and thankfully we were able to get in last Thursday December 5th at noon for lunch. We were greeted by a white jacketed gentleman named Alassandro and shown to a very nice table. Alassandro was our lead waiter and took our drink orders quick and promptly returned with our cocktails, that were wonderful. Alassandro walked us through the menu and suggested that we have the grilled sea bass for 2 as out entree’s. I knew we had to have their world famous “Goa” Risotto which I’d heard about on that Food Network show, and OMG were they correct😋 It’s absolutely without a doubt, the best Risotto we’ve ever had anywhere! While we were savoring our Risotto Alassendro came out with a beautiful rolling serving table and showed us the most beautifully grilled Sea Bass along with wonderfully grilled medley of vegetables. As Alassendro prepared our Sea Bass table side carefully dissecting the fish and deboning it very professionally we had to take a video of this very talented waiter. Alassendro then made a sauce from the juices and lemon juice and EVV olive oil. We can say without a doubt this was the best grilled fish of any kind we’ve ever had❤️ The grilled vegetables were a perfect accomplishment to this absolutely delectable fish, and luckily we had a second helping of that fabulous Goa Risotto to also accompany everything else. I asked Alassandro to recommend a nice white wine to pair with this wonderful meal, and he suggested a very nice Soave from the Venato region that was beautiful yet not going to break the bank.
After this amazing meal, Jockamo, Alassandro’s assistant (also white jacketed) brought us out the rolling desert cart for our eyes to feast on😋 We selected Lemon meringue and the Ricotta cheese cake. I asked Jockamo his suggestion for a Dolce wine to accompany our desserts and he asked me to trust him in selecting a wine. Boy, was that the correct decision! It was a perfect pairing with our delicious desserts.
I can honestly say that I haven’t had a meal and service like these gentleman served us since I lived in NYC many years ago. Da’Romano’s cuisine, flawless service, and presentation, are second to none❤️ Please do yourselves a huge favor and make your way to Burano in Venice for an amazing food experience! (Closed on Tuesdays) Lunch only noon to 3
