The restaurant is located in a terrace of typically, brightly coloured houses on a canal in Burano. It is about 200m from the vaperetto stop and is ideally situated for lunch after a visit to Totchello. It is a place for enjoying a meal of high quality local sea food, not for a quick, cheap meal. It is lovely environment, the service is excellent and the experience is well worth the money. You can order dishes off the menu or, as we did, discuss with the waiter what to have for the table and add further dishes as you go. In our case it was a spider crab each and some prawns. Then a plate of razor shells and scallops and thirdly a platter of Frito misto. Pudding was a freshly made tira misu. The bottle of Soave Classico suggested for us was a perfect wine for the meal.

Would love to give this restaurant five stars! And I can see why it would receive this score in so many reviews, the food is delicious, location is beautiful with friendly staff. However unfortunately on our visit we feel the service didn't quite live up to expectation, nevertheless the staff were incredibly friendly just somewhat forgetful today! We had to ask for the menus after being seated for 15mins, we ordered wine and had to ask for it again as it didn't arrive, we asked for extra lemon with our fish dish however the waiter forgot to get it, then we had to ask for the dessert menu twice. The food was outstanding and I can honestly say the tirimisu was the best we have eved tasted! We would definitely come back!

We learned that Burano Island is well worth the 90-minute vaporetto ride on our first visit here in half a dozen trips to Venice. We couldn't help but notice the impressive reviews for Trattoria al Gatto Nero da Ruggero as we strolled around this picture-postcard little island, and were fortunate enough to be seated outside for lunch toward the very end of their noon serving hours. Our lunch was one of the dining highlights of our just concluded 10-day stay in Italy. The servers and sommelier offered friendly and unpretentious service that was still meticulous, starting with a complimentary glass of Prosecco and ending with a complimentary plate of homemade cookies. We shared the sliced meat appetizer that proved to be a generous serving of high quality. For our main dish, we ordered the Pappardelle scampi, which was as delicious as the presentation was beautiful. A return to Burano and Al Gatto Nero da Ruggero is now a must on our next visit to Venice.

First of all, I live in Rome - so I am used to eating delicious food. The pasta I ate here is probably the best pasta I have ever eaten. Apart from this, the friendliness and kindness of the people who work in this restaurant are truly remarkable. It was Ferragosto yesterday, so I had little hope of finding a table, and indeed when I asked if there was room for four people who hadn't booked I was told no. My daughter wasn't feeling well, and I asked if there was somewhere we could go to sit down. I did not mean in the restaurant. Immediately, four chairs were brought for us, and iced water for my daughter, and prosecco for the rest of us. Amazingly, within half an hour they found a table for us. The food was truly out of this world. One of our party is a vegan and the Chef offered to make her fresh, egg-free pasta. She didn't take him up on the offer because she is a bit of a martyr. But even she could not complain about the delicious plate of vegetables that were prepared for her. The highlight of our stay in Venice. Recommend 100%.

i am sure dinner is great, too, but we were there for lunch. The restaurant was recommended by American friends and we took the boat to Burano and were delighted with the whole experience. The food was great. We sat outside along the lagoon, and drank bear from a wine bottle. It ain't cheap, but it is worth it.

I've been wanting to go to Al Gatto Nero for a long time, but was determined on this last trip to Venice. And lunch was certainly with the wait ! This really is a good as it gets for seafood restaurants. Charming, delightful setting and polite, helpful and efficient service. They are famous for their house risotto - and it was stunning. Simple, but so full of flavour and perfect texture. My partner and I can't eat onion, due to a health issue and we asked if we could possibly have the risotto without it. No problem. Even the famed chef came out and spoke to us personally to clarify what we wanted. The prices are not cheap, but when you compare to other Venice restaurants it is absolutely worth it. We couldn't find any fault at all with our lunch - we will be back ! And both highly reccomend Al Gatto Nero.

What an amazing experience we had , the food was just brilliant , One of the best restaurants I have ever eaten in . The risotto was the best ever and everything we had was such a high quality, the staff are super friendly and so helpful in our choices of food and wine. A must visit but remember to make a reservation or you will not get in as it’s so busy, as the food is to die for

What an amazing place this is. We had hoped to sit outside but as we didn't have a reservation we were happy to sit in. The complimentary prosecco on arrival is a very special touch and was delicious. We shared the parpadelle with shrimp and ricotta - totally melted in the mouth and was sublime. The service was absolutely on point, friendly, attentive and informative.

A trip to Burano primarily to enjoy Sunday lunch at highly recommended Black cat ended in disappointment. Two stars for a wonderful aceto balsamico and the you get waiter’s attempt to serve us pleasantly. Having booked weeks in advance, the arrival was surprising unwelcoming. Arrogance and negligence gave an unpleasant rustede atmosphere. Servings with one Word “prego”, No introduktion or presentation. Unfortunately, Burano is Nice, but the comours did not compendste Washington a Sundsy in Venice at a Disappointing restaurant.

Just went on the off chance that we could get a table, met by the owner Massimiliano who couldn’t have been more helpful (great Scottish accent). Sat I the court yard with the smell of fresh basil hanging in the air. Massimilianos’ father coming out to cut the fresh leaves to add to the final dish. The food was lovely and the risotto now makes it to the top of my list before George V hotel in Paris. Great service and excellent value (you will not feel mugged off) Can not recommend enough a must when going to Venice Thank you

A really nice restaurant with outside tables next to the canal. Fantastic staff - really friendly, attentive service Enjoyed the food … taste, presentation and whilst on the higher price side, still felt it represented value. Did I mention the staff ? They absolutely make the experience Made a much more memorable meal, for my daughter and myself.

This place has never disappointed. I have been coming here for 50 years from the time it was a simple trattoria until its current exalted presence. And this time we learned what "acqua pazza" is. My wife had sea bass cooked in this sauce that included white wine, sherry and reduced cherry tomatoes. Delicious.. The shell fish for two and the sole were as good as they get. Our waiter suggested a regional wine that was an excellent match for our fish and the price was right.

We had seen this restaurant on Fred Sirieix’s Amazing places to eat and booked a few months ahead. This night before we emailed to add some friends to our booking and Massi was able to do this - no problem. On the day, we found that the restaurant was fully booked so was glad we had booked ahead of time. Massi greeted us warmly and presented us with some complimentary prosecco. Always a winner! The service was first rate and the food delicious. I wish I could take the balsamic vinegar home as it was the best I’ve ever tasted. We had the calprese salad and rissotto. Was so flavoursome and was just the right amount. It’s not cheap here but it’s defiantly worth the experience as sitting by the canal looking at the colourful houses coupled with the service and food is something you just can’t get everywhere! Thank you Massi and team

We visited Gatto Nero in early September and had a wonderful dining experience. Reservations are a must and you may even need to wait a bit, even after your reservation time arrives because diners are not hurried through their meal. And when you're offered a glass of Prosecco while you wait, with a view of a Burano canal, who would mind waiting? Once seated, our waiter was immensely helpful, professional, and kind. The signature risotto is a must! We tried something from every course and finished with espresso and a Limoncello. We traveled through Italy for 2 weeks and this was one of the best meals and service we experienced.

So sorry for the delay in writing this review. We celebrated our Ruby wedding back in August and flew from UK to Venice with our children and partners for a 1 night stay on Venice island and the finale of the weekend was our lunch at The Black Cat. It’s amazing to think you can book something from so far away and then arrive at the arranged time to find our table waiting for us along with a glass of Prosecco. The food, service, attention to detail and the humble hospitality were second to none and priceless. You created a memory for us which will go down in our family history. We left via water taxi directly back to the airport. Amazing, breathtaking and emotional.thank you so much!!
