We had breakfast here on our way into Auckland and it was pretty good, especially for the price. We had the eggs Benedict, scrambled eggs on toast, a flat white and a chocolate chip cookie. All really good. Staff very friendly.

Pleasantly surprised to stumble across this little café on our way to Rotorua from Auckland. A great first stop once you are out of the city and you can do much worse than stopping in here to get breakfast. There are no bells and whistles with the café but the Bacon is good and the Coffee and Breakfast was more than enough to fill a hungry belly. Pokeno it appears is famous for its bacon so if you are a fan then stop in and give it a go.

Very basic food. Bacon found in vegetarian food. The toilet was disgusting. Would not recommend and will not return

I come here at least once a week and I have absolutely no complaints. The food is delicious, the prices are affordable, and most importantly the staff are very welcoming and friendly. The atmosphere is clean and well looked after too! Best cafe I’ve been to:)

Yummy breakast and friendly staff. Large servings - I had the mixed breakfast and it was well cooked and presented. The hash browns were sooo crispy and everything else very good. Fast efficient service and chased down with a yummy iced chocolate.
Highly recommend this cafe under its new management.

What an outstanding cafe. The service was very friendly. The menu was expansive and the food was just excellent.
We had eggs Benedict and the big breakfast. Wow, these meals were just superb. And super filling.

quick to take your order and money...but fail on customer satisfaction.
Any question of poor service or "not as ordered" will be met with loud argumentative attitude regardless of current table holders.

It is time this cafe shaped up or shipped out. Two new cafes have opened in Pokeno providing beautiful food at good prices & sparkling clean premises. This cafe offers last century everything with fries style. Time to offer healthier options, update the decor, provide clean toilets & show respect to customers by doing just that.

Fabulous and friendly country hospitality.
My omelette was light fluffy and delicious.
My friend's pancakes with bacon, maple syrup, banana and cream looked great and it was quickly eaten.
An enjoyable Sunday drive and lunch. Very reasonable cost.

Typical cafe set up, nothing fancy but good honest meals reasonably priced. I had the corn fritters $18 and got 2 large fritters and salad and heaps of very nice bacon. I couldn't eat it all. Hubby had hamburger and chips and brother had BLT. Both good sizes and good va

We decided to head down to Pokeno with elderly mum for a change. Not busy and easy parking out front a good start. Friendly welcome from staff. Not much to choose from in the cabinet - a few pies, a sandwich, some slices. A large blackboard menu which enticed us to order fish and chips for 3 plus coffees.
We sat and our coffees came promptly. The environment is tired and dated. There's a water dispenser. Sauce bottles and cutlery are at the front counter. We waited and waited. Others who ordered after us received their orders but not us. At last a hamburger was delivered. Wrong table. What had happened to the fish and chips I asked? Coming I was told and then they arrived. 25 minutes from when we ordered. There were 2 battered fillets and a good portion of chips. Also a small dish of tartare sauce and a small wedge of lemon. Tasty and filling.
At the end of the meal I took mum to the toilets. A small room just big enough for the toilet and a door that opened inwards! Virtually impossible to get in and shut the door and totally unsuitable for disabled or elderly customers. I thought if anything happened to someone in there it would be impossible to assist them without breaking down the door and injuring the occupant in the process.
We left after advising the staff member of the toilet issue. She listened but really I don't expect anything to happen. They did give us a friendly goodbye.

We stopped in Pokeno for lunch and chose the Pokeno Country Cafe to have lunch in. We ordered a toasted sandwich each, which was good but other items on the menu seemed better value for money.

Copied from a review on fb: I never post negative stuff on fb, but this is a heads up if your stopping in Pokeno for a bite to eat.
This morning my nan, 2 cousins and I decided to catch up for breakfast before I head home to Hamilton. Pokena seemed the obvious choice, giving it was easy for me to get back on the motorway.
Nan suggested this place "Pokeno Country Cafe", so off we went happy to see each other and catching up about our holidays/year.
Our family ordered our kai, happy as larry to pay nearly $100 for 4 meals and 4 drinks. We had ordered our kai just after another whanau, so we knew there would be a wait.
40 minutes we are still waiting, and the whanau before us are getting upset because some of their food hadn't come out and the daughter goes to the counter asking for 2 jam toast (already paid for) for her 2 year old.
Then BOOM, the cook comes out swearing her head off at the customer 😱😱😱 which was quickly meet with some colourful words from this Mum. Holy cow!!! They were yelling at each other at the top of their lungs, throwing swear words back and forth over the counter with a cafe half full of customers.
The whole atmosphere in the cafe was shoot, man it looked like no one enjoyed there meal.
Another 10 minutes goes by and my nan gets HALF her order, I politely go the the counter reminding them some kai is missing. The COOK bee lines for our table, and aggressively tells my Nan (70 something lol). No you didn't you didn't order that! We pulled out our receipt, she snatched it out of my nans hand and storms off. In all honesty the kai was yuck, not worth it and the customer service was the worst I've ever seen.
I did ask the lady if she was okay, and thanked her anyways. But we will never go back there. Kino as man 😡

I have been here previously and enjoyed it and decided I would come again with some friends. I was so disappointed it has gone down hill. The food was quite expensive for what it was a took some time to prepare. The fish was frozen fish and there wasnt many chips for $18.50. I have paid less and eaten better definitely will not go back
