Another great night out

This is becoming our regular when we visit Wellington. It was a quiet night and so service was almost immediate. As a summary TopTaste is of much higher quality than most Cantonese restaurants in NZ. We had the stuffed chicken wings again, they are addictive. The roast duck with pineapple was perfect, the sweet and sour pork was typical but really good sweet and sour pork, probably more of a NZ dish than Chinese. Singaporean vermicelli, Szechuan tofu, Beansprout and mushroom stir fry, S+P tofu were all at the top of their game. The wine list is small but of high quality. Cicada Gewurtztraminer goes very well with this food. We love it here and can't wait to visit Wellington again to return.

Delicious food and friendly staff

We came here for the first time and were blown away. The staff are friendly and the food was delicious. We had the combination noodles, kung bo chicken, and mapo tofu. There was a 2-for-1 mains deal on Thursday which made it even better. Highly recommend!

Terrible customer service

Bad customer service ordered as a group waited for 2 hours for food, had to ask where my meal was as everyone had been served and I was still waiting 20 minutes after everyone’s meals arrived to find out they had forgotten my order. Never thought to let me know even though I asked twice. Asked for meal to be complimentary as everyone had finished there meal by the time mine arrived. Started eat when a waitress came and told us I need to pay as I was eating meal or give them the food back . They have lost a customer.

Bad Service from 1 Male waiter

If there was a minus star, that's what your restaurant deserves. The food was ok except the garlic bread tasted weird. I get tastier garlic bread from Pizza hut or Dominoes. We were served by a while skinny male waiter with a terrible attitude. First there were lots of empty tables so that says a lot for a 'Saturday night. We get there and we were made to wait in reception. I couldn't wait yet that waiter took his time cleaning the table we were heading to our table. That waiter said he hasn't finished cleaning the table. Really!!! Takes him 5 min to clean a table. He hands us the menu when we in the reception area when hello that should be him taking us to our table and handing us the menu. Then after our main we were made to wait felt like half an hour but we waited 20 min for our dessert. Was only me and my son as diners yet no waiter, waiting, waiting. Then a kind, smiley Chinese girl serves us. I go pay our bill over $180 which is a lot of money to most people and hello he is standing there with his headphones on. No smile, he then slams our receipt down. I was going to say to him, "bloody rude service and we were going to choose Indian tonight, wish we did".

Hello Norz0967, I appreciate your message and feedback from your dinner experience on Saturday night. I'm really sorry to hear you found one of our front of house waiter's attitude to be unsatisfactory. I have spoken and written a few key points which he will be improving on, such as smiling more and being more gentle during the billing process. I just want to clarify that you were made to wait in the hallway because the only other tables at the time available were for tables of 6 or greater, and we as a team decided to seat you at table number 5 for 2 pax. It did need a full clearing, wipe down and then sanitising, and then reset of crockery and glassware. However I do apologise for the wait. Our cleaning procedures are in line with the food safety and health department requirements, and we ensure that we get this part right. (We uphold our responsibility to our guests that they have a clean environment to eat in, especially with Covid19 this year.) I sincerely hope we can improve on the issues you have raised ASAP. Our staff never intended to come across to you and your son as rude, and we hope you can give us another chance in the future to redeem ourselves. Sincerely, Tani

We had to wait 1.5 hours before we could get our food. They had a huge order ahead of us but no indication of delays were advised and we were left waiting. Over priced foods and small quantity of food served (even though we ordered large quantity).

Came here for dinner, thought try some where new. Menu looked good so thought why not. Now the venue was good, great atmosphere and service was great to. Meal started ok with entrées taste wise but that was the only ok. Mains were tasteless and over priced. Probably wouldn't come back for dinner again, maybe a snack.

Celebrating well in an estimable Porirua venue

Out celebrating on cold Saturday night we hit on Top Taste. Fine choice! Found the staff to be both accommodating and friendly but who could also keep up a good pace. Entrees were mini pork buns and hot spicy soup. Both did what it said on the tin. We got bit alarmed at prices in that "small plates" were in the upper $20 range. No problem - the small plates are huge. Not a massive choice but there was real quality in all we ate. We really enjoyed the combo fried rice, bami goreng and chicken with cashews. All those dishes were extra tasty with mouth-friendly soft meats. Even the smallest piece of mushroom or carrot had a solid and lasting flavour. We felt full in the nicest possible sense - satisfied but not glugged up as can happen with some rice-based cooking. One of us had a uniquely rich-tasting coffee the other a massive caramel sundae that mightily underlined that we were out celebrating. Lovely well-designed place. A great night out for $160.

Their first day open after Christmas. Two of us went there for a quick lunch. We have been there many times. often with quite q big party, and always had a good meal; we each ordered our usual favourites from the very short lunch menu (Kung Po chicken and Roast Duck with Bok Choy). My companion's food came first and he was halfway through it when my roast duck arrived. The worst roast duck I have ever seriously been offered! Five bony chunks of left-over roast duck, deep-fried to a frazzle. The waitress swiftly disappeared and didn't come back, so I decided to cut my losses and eat what I could of it rather than order something else and eat when my companion had finished. It was swimming in grease and what little meat was left was dried out on to the bones. My companion's main dish was OK, but we were each given mushy rice, pre-moulded into a bowl and decanted onto the plate in a gluey lump. The waitress didn't come back until we had both finished; I had eaten about two thirds of my food. When I complained, she admitted that the duck was roasted yesterday..... she said bluntly "you have eaten it all so I can only take off ten per cent". I found the assumption that I was just out to get a refund rather offensive - I had neither asked for nor expected a a refund, but simply expressed my disappointment with the food. Both food and attitudes leave room for improvement ...and avoid the roast duck!

They managed to fit us in at 6pm as they were busy for a Saturday night with bookings as long as we got out by 7pm. Staff helpful and friendly food was good. Service from the kitchen was super speedy

This was the third time we dined in this restaurant - we live in the South Island. The food was excellent, tasty and really enough for the five of us. The ginger duck was absolutely fabulous.

Delicious food! There were 4 of us and we ordered quite a few dishes because everything on the menu looked so tempting. The starters were a perfect start to a perfect meal. Our waitperson told us to reduce the size of the ginger duck to a small size because we already had so much food ordered and we agreed. But we polished everything off the plates and wished we had gone for a larger sized ginger duck because that dish was super yummy. In fact, I think restaurants shouldn't limit customers orders because they don't know how much some people can eat, plus the portions of food on each plate we ordered were not that 'large'. Overall the food was very tasty and we will definitely come back. The atmosphere was nice and the service was okay. We ended up with a different waitperson nearing the end of our meal and he was quite jolly and made us laugh when he ordered and served our dessert...YES! we still managed to have dessert after 'so much food'.
