The old building is very charming and filled with history. We waited a very long time for service (bringing the menu, taking our order, bringing the food) which was perfunctory. The food was good enough but not what I would expect at these prices. I would not return. We dined elsewhere all week at other places with outstanding food and... More

A great little place with a set menu that is well designed to cater for small and larger appetites. We had a soup each - pea for me and french onion for hubby. Our main wasn't what we expected but good regardless and dessert just enough to complete the meal. Service is good, they top your bread up as many... More

My BIL and SIL from NY state were visiting Quebec City with us and we had dinner one evening at this restaurant. The waitress was excellent and even though we arrived at 6 gave us the early bird prix fixe menu that ended at 5:30. We all chose the Quebec pork pie (tourtière). The meal included soup, salad or poutine,... More

For the last meal of the Quebec City trip that my boyfriend and I took his mom on, we decided to enjoy a meal at Aux Anciens Candiens. What really attracted us to the restaurant was the building it was located in, reportedly the oldest building in Quebec City. The 'early bird special' which starts the meal at $19.95 CD... More

I have walked by Aux Anciens Canadiens for years and never went in for fear I would be eating muskrat or beaver--which i think they served in the past. Anyway, my girlfriend, son and daughter-in-law dragged me in and it was great. Service was fantastic, the atmosphere is steeped in history and tradition, and the food was really good. Very... More

My wife and I had a pre-fix lunch here and it was wonderful. We up charged everything because we were on vacation. The food was Canadian with French overtones. The place is very cozy but can seem a bit small if it's busy ( we witnessed both)so I would recommend going during the slower time( if there is one). Staff... More

.....although the food is perfectly fine, especially for experiencing some traditional fare. Actually the gibier pie is good on a cold, snowy day. Kind of a fun place. Get the prix fixe menu.

We had read about this restaurant when planning on trip to Quebec City and knew we wanted to go. The building itself is very quaint. I was concerned about the mixed reviews, but we had a good experience. We shared the meat pie appetizer which I really enjoyed. I had the filet mignon which comes with crispy french fries and... Aux Anciens Canadiens is nice in the sense that they want tourists to think they eat like Canadians either used to or currently do. If it's your first time in Canada, the place might be worth it. Nice place, ok food, a little pricey, but mostly for tourists

To be honest, Aux Anciens Canadiens didn't deliver our favorite meal in Quebec... but it was a pretty close second. And with the atmosphere and service, it was well ahead of our other stops. Set in the 5th-oldest house in North America, the owners have gone to lengths to preserve the historical feel. The menu focuses on traditional fair... with... More
