We were in the mood for sushi and found this restaurant on the Internet.
It is easy to find.
And the restaurant is nice, located on street level but inside, it felt like the basement.
The walls were stone and it was dark inside. We had a hard time reading the menu.
The menu had a good variety. Typical Japanese fare.
The poke bowl was average. The sushi was good. The sashimi was outstanding.
The service was attentive - if not a bit rushed (it would have been great if we had to rush back to work).
Surprised that they did not offer tea.
Pricing wise - it was about average for sushi (in other words $$).
It would consider this a high end sushi restaurant - more suitable for business meetings and adults than for families and kids.

I went to Kyo Bar with my husband for my 30th birthday because I had heard great things about the restaurant and I love sushi! I was noooot disappointed, loved my experience and the food. The sushi are of quality and very fresh and tasty! We dealt with Nadia, a super kind and resourceful waitress! She proposed us with the most popular items on the menu and was able to give us specific information about each items. I strongly recommend this restaurant for sushi lover looking for quality and a nice ambiance.

A refreshing discovery near the heart of Old Montreal. Although on very busy Canada day, they found a way to accommodate our seating preferences, and very good service has been a trait throughout our dinner. The tapa style Japanese dishes and sushi were of superior quality and presentation, and the price fair in comparison to Montreal’s. What more to ask for?

Title says it all. We opted for sushi rolls. Food was decent and so was the service. Restaurant is nice and provides dividers for covid precautions. We only ordered rolls. We are regular sushi eaters from Toronto. Spent $100 but sushi portions were small for the price (only had tap water in addition) They did not serve complimentary tea or complimentary appetizers like most Japanese places. Could hardly taste the tempura in the rolls and many of the rolls were bland. Not sure if the tapas dishes may be a better choice.

I went to this restaurant with my daughter. The ambience and location was perfect. The hostess was friendly and very welcoming. When the waiter arrived he was kind but I am not sure if he realized he was doing it or not but he would move his mask, wipe his mouth with his hand and then put his mask back on. I was thinking um well all that just defeated the purpose of wearing the mask. He was very informative on how the service and the process of how the food would be served and we were okay with this. I took the Mtlatable meal and my daughter took the Octopus balls. Everything was delicious and each different person came to our table was kind. After all of our food was served well that is when we were forgotten. Took a bit for us to get someone to request the bill. After a while waiting for our bill we saw our original waiter look at us point like ahhh yes I forgot them. When he brought our bill he said that he removed the cocktail that I ordered because of the wait. We had reservations for 7pm and left at 944pm. This was longer than expected to stay there as we didn't order much and shared the food. It was a mixed experience for us.

We shared the 28 piece Chef's choice maki and 10 piece Chef's choice sashimi. The maki were all delicious, the sashimi were nice meaty pieces. Everything was delicious and the presentation was great. Highly recommend.

Quality is good.
Just avoid choosing the chef’s combination because you’ll be eating ‘crab stick’ which is just flour, water and some (10%) fish.
I brought it to the managers attention … only 4 sushi contained fish, the remaining 11 were rice and fish flavoured flower. I was told they would break by me some sushi with ‘fish’ but after almost 1 hour nothing at the horizon.
So I paid the bill and left…

We had a craving for Japanese cuisine and this fine restaurant met al our expectations. I had a variety of interesting specialty cocktails (Madame Gao was excellent). We picked four different plates so we could taste a variety (Yaki Udon was best). And for dessert, creme glacee matcha was perfect. Alas, like many Japanese restaurants, the prices are on expensive side.

The place is quite nice when you first enter. Unfortunately this is another place where they try to pack so many tables in that it’s difficult for people not to run into your chair etc. The music was so loud and annoying, if I wanted to listen to electronic music, I would’ve gone to a club. Just doesn’t fit to a Japanese restaurant. We had five dishes, the Nigiris were fantastic in quality. The cod dish was extremely salty. The broccoli was cooked in salt and maybe a bit of water, same for the Aubergine and bok choi. We also had rolls with lobster and crab meat but that dish was so boring tastewise. Our waiter was great but the kitchen service was just way too slow. Altogether we waited 1,5 hours for five small Izakaya dishes.
I would not come back here, It’s too expensive for the service and quality (except nigiris) you get.

We eat sushi every week and are usually hard to surprise. This being our first trip to Montreal and arriving too late to get the lay of the land in dining, we opted for a close walk from our hotel to Kyo. That turned out to be a fortunate decision. The scene is “hip” and trendy with lots of action and music. The menu is imaginative with interesting “Japanese tapas” plates to choose from, plus the usual assortment of maki rolls, sashimi and nigiri. Our waitress, Elizabeth, was remarkably pleasant and attentive. Not only did she explain the menu options to us, she ensured we understood what we were ordering. When Elizabeth learned that it was our first trip to Montreal, she offered some must-do things to do! She immediately grabbed a piece of paper an otter down a half dozen places to visit. Her enthusiastic demeanor was as delightful as desert after a meal. We shall certainly return if for no other reason than to thank her for her thoughtful recommendations.

I went to Kyo for my 5 year anniversary dinner with my boyfriend and had an absolutely AMAZING experience. Megan was able to answer each and every one of my questions, provided great suggestions regarding food and top notch cocktails. I'm not a huge fan of fish but she was able to suggest mild tasting fish that I loved. She made our night special and went above and beyond for us. THANK YOU!!!

We stayed at Hotel Place D'Armes and decided to try Kyo Bar which is located on the lower level of the hotel. We were not disappointed. The menu was varied, the food promptly served and it was well prepared and tasty. The best part of the dinner was our server, Elizabeth. She took time to engage us at first and then later was able to answer our questions about the menu in very good detail. When she learned that we were heading to Quebec City after Montreal, she was able to provide us with some very good "local" information. Our dinner came at the end of a very trying day following an exhausting experience with the airline. Elizabeth's level of service and personality was just what we needed to put all of that behind us!

From the moment we met Meghan our server, everything was absolutely perfect. The food was a full 10/10, the service was actually 11/10. The manager on duty checked in on us as well, such a nice guy! The Sushi was superb, the spring roll was off the charts…. Then there was the Japanese Bread pudding…. Being from Newfoundland, I will describe it in my own way. It was as if your Grandmother had known you were coming to visit for quite some time and prepared an absolute out of this World dessert to make you feel at home! We will definitely be back, plus, we will definitely be recommending this place to anyone and everyone we know that travels to Montreal!

We had a delicious dinner here. The restaurant atmosphere was very warm and inviting. The background music was some really good soul music. Everything tasted so fresh - highly recommend the salmon spring roll. We had the chicken wings, chicken yakitori, which were both juicy and flavourful. They had a few things that were not on the menu like california roll. Just ask and they can probably make it for you. Tuna sashimi was very fresh and a good portion. Wakame salad was also very flavourful. Restaurant service was excellent. Dinner was ready very quickly and courses were well paced. I would definitely come back here.
