My wife and I love Mussels and try them everywhere we have a chance We recently tried them in Barcelona, Spain four times and in El Campello, Spain once, and we tried them again at this restaurant not for the first time, and we still believe, this is the best place to have mussels This is not a grandiose restaurant... L'académie on Rue St. Denis was an eatery that we enjoyed twice on a recent trip to Montreal, both for lunch and dinner. This eatery features Italian and French cuisine. The price point is aggressive and you can bring your own wine or beer. The St. Denis location has a SAQ (liquor store) across the street with a great selection... More

A classic BYOB of Montreal, I cannot emphasize enough how overrated this place is. The service is decent, sure and it is always packed. But it remains deluxe fast food. It truly is the BYOB equivalent of a Scores or Mikes. We had over or under seasoned pasta. Salty meats. Salads soaked in vinaigrette. And bread. There are just so... More

Went Saturday night for a evening out with family, and had the ribs/combo chicken dish and let me tell you that the ribs are amazingly good and the best ever eaten in Montreal. What makes these ribs the best ever was the it was not heavily basted with BBQ sauce but rather fall off the bone meat with the right... More

Well since it is a bring your on wine place it wasnt really expensive although the calamaris werent cleaned properly whatsoever. The waiter served the other tables that got 15 minutes after us but the actually meal was pretty good. I would go as a last resort if nothing else is available

This meal was an anniversary gift from our children. Our reservation was made for Sun. night because we would get better service then, instead of Fri. or Sat. We were greeted warmly by the manager, Tony. He had 2 tables ready for us so we chose the one upstairs next to the window---great people watching of the street: St. Denis>... More

We came on a Sunday night with a party of 9 including 5 teenage children. The service was good, the food was good, the wine our friend bought at the shop across the street was great. There was a special price for pastas on Sunday night (thru Thursday actually) and that was, in my opinion, a fair price. Most of... More

We found this place by accident. We were walking to a nearby place where the reviews were absolutely great. They had two occupants. Other restaurants were at capacity. This place accommodated us and then sat two bus loads with 4 week reservations. We were warned it might be slow but it was not. The service was first class. They sent... More

BYOB concept on one of the busiest street in Montreal. I tried their Mussels and Fries during a romantic dinner with my fiancée and she had a delicious Lasagna...with sauce rosée! Vey tasty! They have promotions during the week and on Sundays. They don't have a terrasse but they open their big windows on the 1st floor so you feel... More

My experiences with this place have always been mediocre. Yes the service can be fine at times, but the food is a joke. DO NOT make the mistake of believing this is a proper Montreal restaurant because it is not. Montreal has so much to offer, and Academie is not one of it's good restaurants.

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
