This sushi was special. The place is hidden. We had to call to figure out where it was and we still had trouble. Hint: it's on the second floor of the building near the dollarama. You go up and you can't believe you are on Ste Catherine. No noise, nice decor, focussed sushi chefs, great service. Our favourite dishes were... More

Great restaurant, it doesn't have big signs outside,so it is hard to find it, but then you become a regular. I love their home made Japanese salad and their choices of sashimi is great. Make a reservation

My husband & I had a pretty awful experience. The place is difficult to find and very dark. We had a lot of miscommunication with the staff. First with the waitress and then with the owner. They did give us a discount at the end for all our troubles. The sushi rolls were prepared very well but in the end... More

We sincerely apologize for the experience you had in our restaurant, which was not supposed to happen. There was actually a misunderstanding between our new waitress and chef to make this order, which was a combination from two dishes. We are sorry that we did not make it right at that moment, but has been corrected. We are proud of... More

Based on the reviews, we thought this place would be a real find. Located in an unmarked building up on the second floor on St. Catherine St., - we were super excited to try what we were led to believe would be fresh, amazingly tasty sushi. Although the food was priced at the top end, the sushi itself was nothing... More

Had a very relaxing dinner here last night - this place is not obvious to find: second floor , office building entrance : look for the street number and the sign, but great location to place des festivals for a pre or post show meal! Big space, soft music, the " zen" in this restos name is appropriate.. We shared... More

After eating there last year took our grandaughter there on this visit to Montreal. Good selection of fresh fish and excellent service. Amusing location is very similar to good places in Tokyo.

Tucked into a complex somewhere on St Catherine's, without any eye-catching signage, it was a little hard to find. But the food was great, loved the sashimi and the waiter's suggestion (désolé, j'oublie le nom du dish!). The little cucumber quail egg thing was a bit too gourmet and fancy for my tastes, and getting" regular " sushi here isn't... More

Went back to Montreal and had to return to Japonais Sushi Zenya. Looks like lower floor foyer has been updated. Sat at the bar and had an amazing array of oysters, tuna tartare and more. Place was busy and it seemed like the 'kitchen' was getting behind on orders, but it may have just been the large table of 30-something,... More

To start off, the location is unusual, it's essentially on a floor of an office building. To credit Zenya, there is a nice lady outside the building in a traditional Japanese dress, so you will not miss it. Once she takes you up, you will find yourself in a nicely decorated restaurant that fits the food being served. All of... More

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
