Good value Japanese with lots of tasty options. The place is not that pretty, but the service is good and food excellent.

We had salmon and tuna sashimi that were very good (for my taste the right size and slicing). The rolls were also simple yet tasty. The tempura roll was really good.

Everything was excellent. Best Mizo soup ever. Service was perfect and all the food delicious. The place is not very attractive but this is forgiven due to the quality of the meals. I recommend this place a lot. Just go and taste.

Look past the decor - the food is very good. Lunch menu is small, but very good. Dinner offers more selection and, having eaten there quite often, is not disappointing. Good variety, fresh, authentic.

This restaurant was near our hotel so we ate here the first evening we were in town. Our teenage boys really enjoyed it!

This place is a bit weird, misses the soul. Food is great but it feels like the staff hasn't the "love". The interior feels a bit loveless also. Why? Not enough eye fot the detail. But still great food!

Great Japanese food. Not just for the sushi but their other dishes were good as well. Though, you won't regret if you get the sushi-mi plate. The staff speak Japanese so it adds to the authenticity.

From the outside, Isakaya doesn't look like much, but it's a lovely simple decor when you step inside. Excellent sushi and gyoza, all the usual small plates one expects from a Japanese sushi bar, with a few items one might not expect (Ankimo, for example -- monkfish liver pate -- isn't on many menus and it's a real treat). We were seated just after the doors opened early Saturday evening. Dining experience was casual and it felt family run, which was delightful. Freshly prepared food served quickly by very attentive waitstaff.

An authentic, reliably family run Japanese Isakaya (in Japanese - an establishment that serves food with drinks). My favorites are oysters with ponzu sauce (now in season), scallops Batayaki, rock shrimp, mackerel sashimi, the eggplant (Age Nasu). The meat skewers are surprisingly good - tender beef, lamp, liver and chicken, The sushi bar is staffed with an expert Japanese chef... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
