Let me start by saying that I'm mostly a steak, seafood, pasta kind of guy and I rarely go outside my comfort zone. So the thought of going to a Peruvian restaurant was a huge leap for me. But, was traveling with 2 friends and they wanted to try it. So glad they did!! What an outstanding meal!! The decor... More

This was a surprise; we were walking around St. Denis. We were looking for something special to try, since we were only in town one night and were on our way to the usual bars we hit on that street. We saw this restaurant , and were hooked the decor is very nice, highlighting Peru and Peruvian art. Tried the... More

After leaving a rave review of Mochica back in July 2013, we kept coming to the place every year. This year we’ve noticed a significant change that merits a mention for other Peruvian food lovers. The first change is how they make their Pisco sour. Nothing to do anymore with the classic, it is made in a blender crushing the... More

I went to Mochica on a date, on a Wednesday night. First, they offer 2for1 on coktails before 7, which was great since I wanted a (or many) Pisco Sour. My partner and I ordered the oisters, the ceviche, yuca frita, and the camarones with passion fruit sauce. The oisters were delicious and not too expensive (1.50$ each). The ceviche... More

We showed up with a group of 10 friends for dinner from a fundraiser next door - one of our friends is vegetarian and we asked if the chef could prepare a vegetarian meal for one of my friends. Being a Peruvian restaurant with so many vegetarian combinations with meat, it would not have been that difficult so we asked... More

Mochica offers a good review of different traditional dishes of peruvian cuisine. Being peruvian makes me feel more critic about taste than normally but I must say is avery good taste. Prices are high it could be not that expensive but at least the service is very good also so there is some pros and cons.

Had dinner here by chance on a weekend in Montreal. We enjoyed every part of it. The server was friendly and knowledgeable and spoke both English and French. We started with pisco sours which were good. We had the duck and the shrimps, both were absolutely delicious. The wine, a Peruvian Malbec and a Chardonnay were excellent. We finished with... More

We went there with my wife for St Valentine's . It was extremely expensive for what they served . The " ceviche " had 3 microscopic bits of fish cut like carpaccio . The main course was quinoa risotto with scallops . It was real tiny too. Quality of food is good . Not excellent . And I know this... More

Having worked in Peru for about 8 months, I was very pleased to find a real Peruvian restaurant in Montreal, that I can really relate to. Décor, food and the chef really reflect the culture and cuisine of Peru. I took my family to the Mochica and they were really taken by the Peruvian Chef Martin Ore's cuisine. Our Maître... More

A varied and creative menu. This Peruvian restaurant serves up excellent, well-executed plates with elevated flavours. I usually order one of the tasting menu which always satisfies or exceeds my expectations. This is one of those spots that I highly recommend.

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
