When we arrived at the hotel we asked if there were any good restaurants in the area and she told us to go to Modavie. When we walked in we were greeted by a very friendly man named Lorenzo...not sure if he owned the place. He was so kind and attentive we would go back just to see him. The... More

My husband and I were looking for a fun place to celebrate our anniversary, with my mother for company. This place filled the bill beautifully with good food, live music, easy access, great ambience and a very pretty atmosphere. Even with the music, it was not so loud to be a problem for my very senior mother and the staff... More

We came here on a Tuesday night when they have live music starting at 7pm. It's such a cozy restaurant and a great atmosphere. There is both an English and French menu and the servers speak both as well. There is a great wine list and the menu has lots of options. We both had the suprême de poulet and... More

Our family of four had and OUTSTANDING meal at Modavie. We were in town for one night after visiting Vermont skiing so we wanted a true Quebec experience. The maitre'd Lorenzo was so welcoming and hospitable and funny and charming. He warned us not to sit too close to the music(we had an 11 year old girl) and ensured we... More

This is one of our go-to restaurants when we visit Montreal. Really nice ambience, with a small, friendly bar and white tablecloth-style tables, but somehow homey and comfortable; Frank Sinatra or Dean Martin playing softly enough that you can have a conversation but loud enough to give it a nice feel; the live music has also been consistently good and... We went to this restaurant after reading positive reviews on TripAdvisor. The menu is fantastic and everything sounds amazing. We just wanted to try the poutine and it wasn't great: the fries we clearly frozen and not fresh and it was just mediocre. I expected better from such a nice establishment.

I was here last night for dinner with my mom, her best friend and my sister for my moms birthday. We had an absolute blast. The food was impeccable. Probably the best service I have ever received at a restaurant. If you are in you need to ask to meet Lorenzo! He will make you feel at home and do... More

We were recommended by a local and it was so good we went twice during our stay. Be sure to mention that you want to be close enough to hear the music, with the best tables by the window on the main level. We read that lamb was a specialty and that was correct. I would definitely recommend the excellent... More

Food, atmosphere, and service were all incredible. Management went out of their way to suit our needs with reservations. Friendly staff. Ate lamb chops and risotto - both delightful. Nice wine menu. Would definitely recommend for families and/or couples. Thanks for making our first visit to Montreal memorable!

The resteraunt is in an old building with a lot of charm. We were recommended to it for the live jazz and food. We went twice on our trip and both times the food was excellent, especially the lamb. Service was awesome, both waitresses who served us were very attentive and seemed very genuine friendly people. Caroline gave us lots... More

Seven nights a week, local bands take the stage at Montreal's hottest Jazz bar and bistro. Modavie's spirited setting sets the scene for a night of great tunes, top dining and generous pastis toasting. The bistro's far-reaching wine menu hits just the right notes and helps round off succulent lamb, fish, beef and inspired pasta dishes.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
