I brought my husband to Gibbys in Montreal for his birthday last saturday. This was our first time at this restaurant and we had heard many good things. The food was absolutely delicious. I had the salmon and my husband had the chicken kiev. The french onion soup was to die for...and so were the pickles! I forgot to ask... More

Loved the location and our waiter, Milton, was out of this world! My kids referred to him for the rest of the trip:) I recommend the Brazilian coffee:)

Gibbys has been an institution for as long as I can remember. Obviously they must be doing something right and that is The steaks. Otherwise the menu is as stale as the decor and Service is fair at best. Not quite what you'd expect when presented with a Gibby's bill.

Gibbys is always great! It is a landmark and has amazing food, customer service and good atmosphere. Make a reservation as it is always very busy. A bit pricey, but well worth it. Both out steaks were to perfection. Definitely would recommend it!

Exquisitive dining experience. If you enjoy eating your food unrushed then, sit back and let the staff cater to you. A typical meal with salad, main course, dessert and coffee or wine can take you anywhere from 2 -5 hours. Worth every cent that you've spent while you languish over your meal.

Somewhat expensive but well worth the money. The interior is beautiful, very countrylike and lots of ambiance. Must have reservations on weekends. The service is excellent. Now about the steaks, to die for and lots of choices of different cuts, plus they serve rack of lamb and also fish dishes. They are all great and very generous servings. Gibby's has... More

Without a doubt fine dining, with food, service, and ambiance well above average, but it falls just shy of other fine dining restaurants in Montréal. The seafood was well above other fine dining steakhouses. Overall it won't disappoint though, so well worth visiting.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
