This small place is often overlooked as Ramados (which is down the street) is probably better known for Portuguese chicken in Montreal but this is a sit-down restaurant rather than take-out. Prices are reasonable and the food has been solid for the last ten years, but be ready for surly servers who aren't really willing to take the time for... More

We went here for my bday supper and it was fantastic, the portions are so immense and it's priced right. I had the steak and fries and everything was good. My wife had the charcoal chicken and it was very tasty.

While the seating is a bit tight, the place certainly delivers taste. Wow. They are know for their Chicken and fish. We both had grilled calamari and octopus. Fresh, perfectly prepared. Yup. They is another section just around the corner when you come in. So fear not if it looks full. Which it usually is.

My fiancé and I were in the neighbourhood and decided to have dinner at one of our favourite local restaurants. We arrived early enough to get a table without a reservation. We love the little olives that are brought to the table with the crusty rolls. We ordered an appetizer of grilled squid and it was served with salad and... More

Friends told us they have the best chicken in town. The waiter explained that everything was cooked over charcoal and that the flavour was infused into everything not just the chicken. He is right, we had the grilled squid, (amazing), and ordered the chicken too. Very tasty, large portions. The wood smoke flavours really come through. Cosy ambiance, friendly service.

Suggested by a friend. Great little restaurant with lovely dishes, a little off the beaten path. Loved the octopus and sardines. The chicken was great too. Nice wines. The waiter was very nice and the service very good.

We are frequently ( weeakly) in this family run restaurant with a taste of Portugal without the hassle of travel to Portugal The food is excellent, especially the grilled fish ( every day another type of fish) and the traditional chicken ( regular or spicy) They also feature a strolling singer with a guitar ( our friend) that gives the... Overall I recommend this place. I only took the shrimps and my friends took the grilled salmon and they really liked it. I will certainly go back to try other dishes. We had a pleasant guitar show. If the waiters could be more friendly that would be great.

My sweetheart and I arrived at Chez Doval on a Tuesday without a reservation, but, early enough to get one of the best tables in the dining room next to a large picture window. Because we arrived before the big dinner rush we were able to get excellent and attentive service. We ordered our favourite, the grilled chicken served with... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
