Small family run restaurant in western Montreal, near McGill University. The menu is limited but the dinner was prepared authentically in a quaint setting. Recommend if you are seeking something different from the run of the mill, steak, seafood or vegetarian.

We thoroughly enjoyed our delicious lunch at this charming hidden treasure! The goulash soup tasted spicy, but was not overpowering. My husband enjoyed their traditional fish soup, which smelled heavenly ( I was jealous of his choice!). We split the Esterhazy cake for dessert. To die for!

Excellent food, top-notch service. Make sure you stay for dessert - all homemade and out of this world! Great prices too. Restaurant doesn't look like much from the outside, but well worth a visit - we'll be back!

We go to this restaurant now and then for Hungarian food: goulash, stuffed cabbage, chicken liver ... everything is excellent in taste and quantity, real family food. The Hungarian lady who does the service is very kind, her husband does the cooking. The wine is reasonably priced, we had a bottle of Hungarian Riesling that was excellent, and don't miss... More

Cafe Rococo is a fresh change from the tons of Kabob places that dot the downtown Montreal. We stepped in for lunch trying to find a place to get food late in the afternoon. The owners were gracious and the menu was interesting. It has the traditional Hungarian fare and the food is tasty.

Had a quick lunch, didn't have much time. As soon as you get near you can smell the lovely aroma coming from the kitchen. Cold Cherry soup (It's meant to be that way) was very tasty but might not be for everyone. Rice and sausage and salad. The sausage had such a fantastic flavour! Imported beer was a bit expensive... We were delighted to find such a cozy restaurant with such excellent Hungarian food. The salad was very fresh and most creatively dressed, but the highlights were our main dishes. It is very clear that they put a great deal of thought into their recipes and then take the time to prepare them well. The beef and the duck were... More

The soups and the pastries, cakes are first rate. The dish menu is somewhat restricted but the veal goulash is a must.

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
