Just arrived in Montreal and went for a stroll in Chinatown. So many restaurants to choose from. My wife and I chose to eat in Chez Maxim Oriental as they had received a Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor. We enjoyed the tastiest Chinese meal we've ever had anywhere. The waiter Donald was so helpful and friendly as were all... More

We had been directed to Chinatown on our first night in Montreal, a quick and easy 5 or 6 blocks. We wanted dumplings. We got so much more. Started with Tom Yun, a Thai soup, then veggies with mushroom (Chinese) and a Stone Bowl rice with seafood (Korean). The staff, everyone from our waiter to the hostess (who kept piling... More

Awesome place. We were there for lunch and everything was perfect. We had beed broccoli, dumplings and seafood stir fry. All perfect. The service was also very very friendly and also very nice to my kids. The cost was fair, you get what you pay for and the quality justified the cost. I will go back!!!

We had a great meal. We were looking for a place to try and we were drawn in by a very friendly staff member. Food was authentic and plentiful! Try it!

Walked here from Place des Arts area of downtown Montreal. In the heart of Chinatown. Went with friends. Meal was good, prices reasonable. Close to Old Montreal, Place des Arts, and many other Montreal sites. Very upscale, clean restaurant.

Not your usual Chinatown restaurant, large, well lit, spacious, clean, very upscale. I've always been treated well here. Waiters very friendly, food always hot and tasty. My favourite chinese restaurant in all of Montreal. Good food, great value.

This is the worst Chinese restaurant ever visit and eat in my life. The fried rice it's the worst ever eat, may be because is old rice. The lemon chicken was really a grease lemon chicken. But we should know better because after traveling almost every month we have learned not to eat in a restaurant with only one table... More

The service was very good and the food was excellent. You can't get a better price for the quality of the food you can order.

At first, this restaurant seemed very nice, the waiters and owner were extremely polite and the food was decent. However, the owner misled us into ordering more expensive dishes. At first, we intended on ordering 3 dishes, but she informed us that rice was not included and cost an extra $2 per bowl and proceeded to recommend that we order... More

I went in on the urging of an employee and going in wasn't a mistake. The meal proved to be quite enjoyable and the service attentive. The waiter helped order and I had wonton soup, pan fried dumplings, orange chicken, white rice and sautéed mixed Chinese vegetables ............... it turned out to be quite a meal. There was none left... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighbourhood Profile
Bakeries, markets, restaurants, and buffets crowd the brightly graffitied streets of Chinatown, the city's aromatic destination for pan-Asian cuisine. Distinguished at its entry points by towering vermillion paifang gates, the compact neighbourhood acts as a focal point for the Chinese community, hectic with educational facilities, cultural centres, acupuncturists, and foreign-language newspapers. Especially vibrant in the warmer months, when the sweet smell of dragon beard candy along the pedestrian walks of Rue de la Gauchetière signal the beginning of the outdoor street fair season, Chinatown is a treasure hunter's dream, with enough knickknack and curiosity shops to tempt even the pickiest shoppers. The convivial vibe picks up after dark, when the area's active nightlife offers evening crowds their choice of drink, dance, and midnight snacks of pho or oysters. Chinatown's mix of new and old, with herbal remedies being sold alongside pop-culture DVDs, gives the area its own animated brand of moxie.
