You have to come early in the morning, this bakery closes early. Just bought a couple of pastries for breakfast and they were good. Went back the next day for the chocolate croissants...

Don't know whether it's a process of gentrification but certainly noticed less boulangeries around downtown. This Au Pain Dore (with locations elsewhere as well) was fine for a quick coffee and croissant fix but if you are looking for quality go elsewhere like Premiere Molson. Some of the baked goods seemed like it wasn't as fresh as can be. This... More

This French bakery is wonderful. The pastries are outstanding. Try the almond croissant. The quiche was excellent as well. The line at lunch was at the door and on the sidewalk. So, if you want lunch get there a little early.

We stumbled upon Au Pain Dore while looking around then Jean Talon Market, and I'm so glad we did. Their croissants, chocolatines and lemon tarts were like a dream. I wish I could eat there every morning! Loved it loved it loved it. I'd recommend to anyone!

Enjoyed lunch here after walking through the Jean Talon Market. I had a spinach quiche and my husband had the ham & cheese sandwich. Both were quite tasty, and with the excellent service & reasonable prices we would eat here again.

While staying downtown, I visited the Pain Dore location on Rue Peel 3 mornings in a row and got the same thing: the Bluette Viennoisse pastry. If I had 3 more days to stay I would have gotten the same! A better pastry I've never eaten in my life; its just another reason to anxiously await my next trip up... More

Very impressed with this bread and pastry shop that comes a long way. Croissant was the best! Their coffee was way better than I expected. We bought some croissant to go but they did not go very far. We were empty handed when we got to our car.

We popped into the bakery after the Jean Talon Market today - we planned a dinner at the apartment with local foods. The bakery smelled so wonderful. We got a typical french bread (not a baguette, but the larger pain Francais) and a cream filled croissant the looked just beautiful. The bread was good, but in a city of wonderful... More

Reminded me so much of Paris - they had the most wonderful French pastries and sandwiches. There is an upstairs area to sit and people-watch out the window, or at a table. Try a mokachino and the Croque Monsieur. Delicious! Prices were quite reasonable, too.

It was my breakfast and brunch place for 2 of the 3 days I stayed in Montreal. Delicious pastries, yummy macarons, and huge and with a big variety of sandwiches and wraps. You should try it for sure.

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
