This intimate restaurant us just around the corner from the Ritz Carlton. Our dinner was simple, but the taste was quite good. Relaxed service. Simple bistro table. Some wines not available, but the food was really good.

We recently hosted a party for 32 at Ariel. We interacted extensively with Daniel in the months prior to our event via phone and email as we do not live in Montreal. He is an absolute pleasure to work with. He is very accomodating in terms of special requests and came up with a fabulous menu, which met our every... More

My husband and ate at Ariel last night and really enjoyed our experience. The food was outstanding! My husband had Cornish hen which had a nice light batter and cooked to perfection. He also had the gnocchi which was very light and flavorful. I had the cauliflower and red pepper soup which was creamy and had a slight kick which... More

Attended the restaurant for the first time through a work related affair and we were absolutely fawned over by the staff-they were excellent. Great location although you could miss it walking by and it is really well done inside with exposed brick walls and great decor-the indoor skylighted terrace is a unique feature. The food was excellent-the gnocci very tender... More

12 colleagues so we had a table d'hôte. Both the chicken and the 12 hours braised Alberta beef were outstanding! The kale salad to start was fresh and crunchy. Apple tartin with vanilla bean ice cream for dessert. Accommodations easily made for both gluten free and an ape allergy!

I was taken to Ariel for drinks, appetizers, and dinners as part of a client event. It was a Monday night, and the restaurant was nearly empty, which made for a perfect environment for chatting and networking. The bar had a decent selection of wines and spirits. We were soon served three appetizers: deep fried macaroni and cheese; grass-fed beef... More

Go for the Chef's choice! Starting with fresh oysters, Glazed octopus, smoked hummus, with pickled Fennel and Gnocchi that were all off the charts. Then the Fresh fried Cornish hen, traditional coleslaw and too many sauces to list that are the house special and should not be missed. If you imagine the best battered chicken you have ever had, you... More

We went for lunch on the late side (2pm, they serve lunch until 3pm) on a Friday, and we had the covered inner courtyard to ourselves. The service was efficient and pleasant, and the food very good. The bavette (hanger steak) of veal was superlative, and the selection of wines by the glass good and thoughtful. It was a very... More

Ariel, Montréal’s newcomer to the restaurant scene is a wine bar and restaurant all rolled into one. Set in a charming turn of the century building you will discover a bright and elegant, buzzy yet stylish atmosphere. The restaurant, refreshingly, is happy to serve up straight forward, unpretentious food, without ceremony. The service has the perfect harmony of professionalism and genuine friendliness. Our well balanced wine list offers delicious wines, many from smaller artisanal producers, with up to 20 choices by the glass. The distinctive local cuisine changes regularly, offering delectable choices like the house smoked salmon salad, the Asian beef tartare, the veal schnitzel, or the braised Kobe short rib. It's an ideal location for a quick lunch, after work glass of wine, or celebratory dinner. Whether you are alone, impressing over business, celebrating with a large party, dropping in before or after the show, or looking for that romantic setting Ariel is where you want to be.

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighbourhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
