What a night ! We were treated like royalty! Red carpet treatment from start to finish. We got an amazing seat at the front of the restaurant where we had a great view of the bar and everyone ambiance and decor was swell. We were greeted quickly by the manager who brought the menus as well as their best waiter. The manager explained to us the menu and thanked me for coming back with a smile on his face. Drinks: We decided to start the night off with the old fashion and a dirty martini. Olives were great and the old fashion was nice not to sweet even tho it had honey in it. We got a bottle of red it was a little dry but went well with the rib steak. Food: I highly recommend the seafood platter it was one of the highlights of the evening. 6 delicious tasty oysters, large fresh shrimps cocktail sauce and half a lobster. The beet salad with goat cheese was fun and fresh. I love the platting of this dish and the beets of course. Rib steaks were cooked to perfection. Juicy and on point. I loved the potato gratin that was paired with it super rich. The desserts we tried were the apple caramel crumble and the chocolate orange mousse. I preferred the apple crumble but both were made with love. Our waiter chau was amazing polite and funny. I was happy he jumped in and recommended I take the rib eye steak because it was more delicious than the steak & frite. I never had to pour my own water or wine they came by checking during the night frequently. All in all the experience was fantastic from just about everything... location to the service to the food. This was definitely a night to remember looking forward to our next night back.

Delicious set Valentine’s meal. Lobster Risotto was outstanding. Our waiter, Amine, had a great attention to detail and was generous to accommodate my request for a modification to my appetizer. My wife and I had a wonderful time.

Had dinner with family (7 adults) on a Monday. Reserved 2 days in advance - given the limited capacity at these times, it is recommended to book in advance. Sittings are appropriately spaced. Overall, a great dining experience. Our server, Amelie, as well as other servers were very friendly and pleasant. Special mention to Hi (the host/sommelier) who gave us a lively and entertaining presentation of wine options, and checking in on our group from time to time. Most of us had the table d'hôte, which is reasonably priced taking into account the quality, portion and flavour. (Note..there are extra charges for some of the options. Aged meats are priced per oz). It is not easy to find a place in a touristy area with this combination. Highly recommended.

This place is a disaster from start to end. You get better treated at MacDonald's and I am not kidding. I sat in the hotel lobby before my group arrived and watched the bartender from the restaurant serve customers in the lobby. His attitude set the whole tone for the restaurant: "you are lucky to be here". I entered the restaurant alone and was ignored for five minutes. No asking if I wanted a drink, no menu, not even a glass of water. The staff who were serving the few booked tables walked past me as though I did not exist. The waiter showed up when my group arrived. He had apparently greeted our table and when I asked for about something on the menu, he replied that since I had not said hello to his greeting he would not deal with me until I did. I had not heard his greeting as I do not hear very well. Someone else at the table said he had replied on behalf of the whole table. You get the drift. I asked about the fish dishes and in a purposely quiet voice so I had to almost lipread he said the restaurant only specialises in steaks. It was as though the fish items did not exist. We ordered hamburgers in order to beat a hasty retreat from this place. Fifteen minutes later the hostess showed up to advise that there was a delay in the kitchen and our order would not be on the table for thirty minutes. There were only about six other tables at most in the restaurant with very small groups of two or three customers. We left. If you are seeking to be gastronomically flagellated, this is a wonderful place to go. We complained to the hotel front desk as we left and they promised us a free meal on another date. That turned out to be pie in the sky

We had dinner at Maggie Oakes two weeks ago to celebrate a birthday. There are two entrances to the restaurant. Since we parked in the hotel garage ($13.80 valet parking), we walked through the interior hallway. (You can also enter from Place Jacques Cartier.) We preferred to sit inside. The dining room is nicely laid out with banquettes along one side, and tables in the middle. The noise level was reasonable and we could carry a conversation. While the menu choices are limited, you should be able to find something that pleases you. We both opted for the 3-course table d’hôte ($37). It was a very good value, keeping in mind that there are extra charges for most choices. We started with drinks and a plate of oysters ($3 each), which were small but very fresh. Then we had the mixed beets (+$3) and the beef tartare (+$3) appetizers, followed by the lobster pappardelle (+$6) as the main course. The pappardelle was delicious, with generous portions of lobster. Finally, we were served a beautiful dessert tray of tiramisu and chocolate cake. All in all, it was a very nice meal. We were treated to good food and good service. And if you’re not ready for the evening to end yet, hop over to El Pequeno Bar, located a few feet away from the hotel entrance, and soak in the atmosphere.

Stayed at the hotel so we went for breakfast. Ready for this? The eggs come with 1pc of toast. When you order toast you get 1pc $5. Yes that's $5 for a slice. First day cold eggs, cold toast hot potato's at least 30min for food. I'm not sure how they are for lunch but breakfast is so/so and slow.

We had brunch outside on a beautiful October day. Good vibe. Mediocre waiter; the busboy was better. When we waived at the waiter, he would look at us and go inside. But he was very present at a table where the girls were busy asking about the details of his pinky ring. Very frustrating. Food was cold when it arrived. I ordered 2 eggs any style (poached) and got scrambled. I didnt say anything because he would never come our way. My friend ordered avocado with two poached eggs (big as quail eggs), the bread was like rubber. Best part was the avocado.

It’s our third visit to Montreal and we always try to find good place for dinner. This one was good! The food is great! The service is also nice! A little bit pricy though. Sangria should cost less for sure and the taste was not good enough. Overall the experience was good. Thanks!

I just had the worst service I have ever received at any restaurant in my life. I came into the lounge area with a friend After the death of her mother. We were there to share a meal and some wine. There was a menu on the table, so one assumed there would be service. After waiting twenty minutes, my friend had to go to the front desk to find help to get a waiter. The waiter eventually materialized, and after we ordered, we had to advocate for the American couple beside us to get service as well. The service was very slow, and once we were served, disappeared again. When we wanted coffee, again we had to go to the front desk. We waited for the bill for over 30 minutes. Again, we went to the front desk, where the young man gave me a lecture as to the fact that one should not expect service in the lounge because one can only get service at the Maggie Oakes restaurant. This felt to me as blaming the client for very bad service. After 5 more minutes, a waiter arrived. I asked to speak to a manager. I had to go find her to speak to her as she was setting up a banquet style table. When I explained the bad service, she again explained that the lounge was not a place to get service and one had to go to the restaurant. This struck me as illogical. Why offer clients a menu if one does not provide service? If clients are expected to go to the restaurant to get a waiter, why not indicate that with a sign? And why offer a waiter with no follow up, with really shoddy service? In total, our meal took 2 hours when it should not have taken more than one. The attitude of the staff, none of whom appeared over the age of 25, was unbelievably “bored” as in, @I am too bored to help you.” No one apologized or took responsibility for our bad service. It was really disappointing. I did not leave a tip and this is big for me, as I once worked as a bartender for ten years. Don’t go to the lounge!!!

I was on the hunt for a dining experience in Old Montreal, and decided on Maggie Oakes, since they had an available table on the patio. The hostess was friendly, and I was seated at a table on the edge of the patio with a great view of Place Jacques-Cartier. I ordered a pint of St-Ambroise IPA to start, then ordered the 16oz Rib Steak ($64) which was dry aged for 45 days. The beer wasn’t very good, nor did I finish it. The steak came with seasonal vegetables, and the quality of the steak was as good as a $10 pub steak. The bill took much longer to arrive than it should have taken, quality of meal and service reflected appropriately on tip. Based on the quality of steak I had at Maggie Oakes, this will be the last time I order a steak while in Montreal!

We went here for lunch on a sunny day in Old Port and enjoyed our meal. We particularly liked the gnocchi. Only thing I would add is that the price is high for what you get because you are paying for the location of where you are eating. Would recommend if you want to spend time sitting in Place Jacques-Cartier to make it worth the money.

Asked for a steak medium rare, received my steak and barely saw pink. I told the waiter, and he takes my plate back to the kitchen. Then another waiter comes to tell me the reason it is over-cooked is because the steaks are dry aged, although everyone else at my table had reasonably rare steaks. He then goes back to the kitchen, and after 20 minutes returns with my cold original steak. He refused to cook a new steak and instead gave me my now cold, dry steak. I was so excited to go to this restaurant but was incredibly disappointed with the food and how they responded to issues with it.

We went here on a weekday night as a couple for our anniversary. Maggie Oaks is in the middle of the Old Port l which is a vibrant location. The setting is upscale and the service attentive. We ordered oysters, a set dinner menu (soup, main, dessert) a salad, and a steak. The oysters were fresh and delicious, can definitely recommend. You can either order a half or a full dozen. The Ceaser salad was solid, but nothing to write home about. The set dinner menu is extremely well priced and you have plenty of options to choose from for each course. I was actually shocked what a great deal it was. We went for the gazpacho-inspired cold soup, salmon (best dish of the evening) and a chocolate cake. The steak,on the other hand (I had a 20oz Ribeye) was disappointing. It was well cooked (medium-rare), but the steak quality just didn't justify its price of $80. It was beyond marbling and had way too much fat. In hindsight, I should have gone for the Filet Mignon instead. In summary, I can recommend this restaurant, but the dishes are more a hit or miss, so choose wisely.

It was a really disappointing dinner. The restaurant was highly rated and that’s why we made reservations for dinner. We ordered the crispy shrimp as an appetizer. It was so over cooked and chewy we couldn’t identify it as shrimp, it could have been anything. My husband ordered a ribeye, they didn’t have it. He then tried ordering a t-bone, they didn’t have it. They suggested a 10 oz filet which he ordered. Since the other 2 steaks were a la carte we assumed the filet was as well and ordered a side of mashed potatoes. I ordered the lobster pappardelle with lobster. The steak came with mashed potatoes and vegetables and the side of mashed potatoes that we ordered. At no time the server told us when we were ordering his suggestion that it came with mashed potatoes and suggested another side. The steak which was supposed to be medium rare was very rare and gristly. We tried to get the attention of our server without luck. The pappardelle was bland and had no seasoning whatsoever. We certainly would not go back.
