We waited over an hour to get into this restaurant at lunch time, midweek and it was well worth it! Food was incredible and the service was excellent. It's busy and bustling inside and it was a fun place to eat with a small group.

We vacationed in Vieux Montréal for a week. Olive & Gourmando was our favorite coffee + breakfast spot. Worth the wait for a table or hop in the take-out line to head to the waterfront w/ coffee and a croissant in hand.

Olive & Gourmando was one of the many places on my "wish list" during a recent vacation to Montreal. I wasn't sure if we'd make it there with its daytime-only hours, but as we were wandering through Old Montreal one morning we happened upon it and went in for breakfast. The restaurant was almost full when we entered, but thankfully... More

Salad #24 was absolutely the best salad I have ever eaten! The fresh greens, tofu, and crunchy peanuts combined with a wonderful peanut dressing and noodles were all so tasty. The Cuban sandwich was also very good! Several in our group ordered their $5 specialty glass of Quebec organic ale which had a nice kick to it. We found the... More

definitely good food, and nice staff. However, crowded and tight seating place. Price is somewhat higher side, but bakery goods were one of the best in montreal

Perfect breakfast fare, a must stop, try the chocolate banana brioche - yum yum! If we had stopped here earlier in our trip, we would have been repeat diners.

The food was superb (there is a reason why they are featured as the must go in Montreal), staff were rude and condescending. Again the place was packed and seemed to be packed all the time, so they don’t need to be nice. In the end we decided just to take out our sandwiches and go eat them on the... More

I had seen recommendations for this place in guidebooks and originally planned to try it for a takeout lunch, but when my husband and I discovered that breakfast was not included in our hotel rate, we decided to have breakfast at Olive & Gourmando the first morning since it was close to the hotel. We enjoyed it enough to come... More

Went for lunch having read a recommendation on where to eat in Montreal. Really busy establishment. Our name was taken and we were told to come back in 25-30 mins for table which suited us. Got back and we were seated accordingly. Shared two types of sandwiches and had the local brew to drink from a microbrewery in Montreal, inexpensive... More

I will admit I am a coffee freak. In the search for a fantastic latte we stumbled on Olive & Gourmando and we were blown away. The ambiance is very nice and the owner has taken incredible lengths to devise a menu that is extremely creative. My wife and I had a poached egg panini with sriracha that was fantastic.... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
