There seems to be a lot of hype regards this place. Unfortunately it did not live up to it. It is really a hole in the wall place serving sandwiches. It is rather old and decrepit inside. I had the lentil soup which was an overcooked mess that has been sitting there all day. The falafel sandwich was OK but... More

This owner of this place is what makes it. Oh and the apple cake fresh out the oven for breakfast is delicious! Coffee is very average though. So buy take away coffee and enjoy the delicious cake!

For the looks of the place it doesn't look like much.. but the food and the service is top notch. Try the apple cake and a bagel sandwich! Coffee was good too. I wish we had time to try everything there during our visit!

Was an unexpected stop as it started to rain while walking g from MacKenzie House to The Distillery. The Apple Cake is as good as they claim. What a treat!!! The roasted pumpernickel bagel with ham and cheese was truly good too.. all for only 5.80CAD.

Stopped in for lunch today. After reading several reviews it was a must stop for me. I had an eggplant pita sandwich with all of the fixings along with a cup of lentil soup and an oatmeal raisin cookie. All of this for $9 Canadian. What a bargain. I sat in the row of seats by the window looking out.... More

Simple yummy food and a tacky interior but that's kind of why I loved it. Why change when it's still good? Cash only but cheap.

Great personable experience. Sadly I didn't eat much owing to a stomach bug but a soup there helped. Busy at lunch. The owner was such a pleasant person and very engaging and funny. It's a simple place with not a lot of seating but lots of regulars.

After reading the reviews about their Apple Cake, I had to try it. It really is terrific!!! The prize for "Best in the World" goes to my Aunt Ruthie, but the Mystic Muffin is a strong contender. It's worth the short walk a few blocks north of the St Lawrence Market to get here. On the way you'll pass the... More

I walked past this place for a long time. The 'hippy dippy' exterior wasn't enticing nor did it look worth a visit. Was I wrong! Ok - so not a fancy place - but a great selection of soups and sandwiches, and APPLE CAKE. Ridiculous, moist, flavouful, yummy, deliciousness - rivals my Aunti Shirleys - tho you didn't know her,... Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
