Popped in for a bite before seeing a show at the Opera House (across the street). Happy hour before 7 gets you half price oysters and cheaper drinks. Service is good. Restaurant is dimly lit, almost to the point where it's too dark but it certainly adds to the early 20th century feel. Try the oysters, burger or tuna tostada.... More

Great food and interesting cocktails. Service was adequate, but the oversight from the entrance made our whole table feel uncomfortable. I guess we were laughing too loudly? Recommend the burger. I won't return though.

Visited the Comrade before 7 for cocktails and Oysters last night. We had a fabulous night, ended up staying most of the evening and ordering more food later. We cancelled our reservations for dinner elsewhere and stayed there and enjoyed ourselves. Oysters were great, little small but delicious. They were well presented on ice with lemons and fresh horseradish. We... More

I am a long time Leslieviller as is my husband so The Comrade is a place we go fairly often. Our neighbourhood has developed a lot over the past years and has become a busy, sought after restaurant area. Last Saturday we went out with another couple. We tried to make reservations at a few places and couldn't get one.... More

My husband and I went there yesterday, and we weren't disappointed. I started with a cocktail (old cuban), and it was really good! We ordered a bunch of different items, but our favourites were the bone marrow and the pork belly tacos, they're just amazing, and super tasty! We also had oysters and shrimp and chorizo, which was good but... More

We were recommended to visit the Comrade for their unique cocktail selection and we weren't disappointed! Every drink we had was delicious. We stayed for dinner and enjoyed their unique food menu (although selection was small). It has a family style approach, where you order numerous dishes and share. Portions are small. Food was good but took a long time... More

Seriously, we're a group of four coming in for a drink and one has a helium balloon because it's her birthday. The waitress took the balloon away to store it in the back because the "owners are strict about how the restaurant looks." Pretentious much? Meanwhile, a guy is seated nearby at the bar with his asscrack hanging out. Great... More

My husband and I live in the beaches. We decided to take the short streetcar to Riverdale to have cocktails at Comrade. What a great idea! We totally love this atmospheric bar. The cocktails are great. We also ordered the meatballs which were tasty. And the service couldn't be better. We'll definitely be back!

This was the 3rd stop of resto-bar hopping in the Riverside area. It was just after midnight; so we ordered 2 rounds of food from the bar menu. The first round consisted of shrimp-chorizo skewers (4 large shrimp, each skewered with a slice of chorizo - a true tapas), ceviche (a generous serving of diced raw fish in a citrusy... More

Staying in East End

Neighbourhood Profile
East End
The East End is an eclectic amalgamation of areas that team up to make this district one of the most multi-faceted and alluring. Home to Toronto's LGBT community hub, Gay Village is alive and pumping day or night with friendly bars, nightclubs, and cafes – its thumb is on the pulse of excitement. For a more relaxed day, the East End has the largest collection of restored Victorian homes, and its stately streets, tree-lined and bursting at the seams with affluence, often sport farmers markets and street artists, epitomized by the effusive St. Lawrence Market. One of the most gorgeous of Toronto's neighborhoods, it also straddles Lake Ontario in an area called The Beach, where you'll find folks cycling and strolling along the sandy shorelines, getting some sun or enjoying shopping, dining, and pub options. For some fabulous food, the vivacious personalities running the restaurants in the East End's Greektown is only equaled by the fun and authenticity of the street stalls and restaurants at its expansive Indian Bazaar. 'Something for everyone' has never been so accurate.
