The food in this place is SUPERB. The portions are quite generous. The service is fast and efficient. The acoustics of the place are a bit off so it tends to be a tad noisy. Go with a bit of patience and not a lot of hunger because most likely you will have to wait for a table as it... More

Went out with family. No reservations. Had to wait , but not long. This is a pub, with pub fare, riotous atmosphere, good beer, good pricing, quick service and well prepared meals. I had seafood linguini, beer and bread pud. For four people, the total was less than CAD140. Consistent value and good food over the years! Maybe that's why... More

I adore this restaurant for when I want a meal that feels fancy but is reasonably priced. The daily features are always fantastic and the last time i went the french cut pork chop with marsala cream sauce, mushrooms, goat cheese and onion mashed potatoes and mixed veggies was phenomenal. I honestly couldn't believe the size of the portion and... More

House on Parliament is probably the best gastropub in Toronto. It offers great food and everything on the menu looked awesome. The House on Parliament is far enough away from the Financial District and Yorkville that the prices are quite reasonable, if not cheap. We started off with the House Soup and Swanky Caesar Salad. Next for our main courses,... More

House on Parliament has the feel of a neighbourhood pub. It was quite busy the evening we went. We waited about half an hour, but it was Thanksgiving Monday, and they did bring us drinks while we waited. Service was great, the food was excellent!! There are 2 floors, fairly tightly packed tables, and a small bar area that was... More

But I was stuck with the usual list of vegi options 2 types of cheese sandwich a soya/veg burger or salad. Please folk use some imagination or look on your tube its not difficult to provide a good quality... More

We hadn't made a reservation and were lucky to get a table and we were so happy that we did. It was really busy and it did take a long time to order and for our food to arrive but our server kept us updated so we didn't mind. We had the scotch eggs to start which were really different... More

Popped in here on a recommendation from our host and it was lovely. We stopped for a drink but were handed a beautiful menu (that was dated with listed specials, so seems to be printed daily) so I ordered humous with pitta & olives and my partner ordered the calamari and both were presented well and delicious. The service was... More

Always a popular spot for dinner and drinks when in the city. Never disappoints. Posh ploughmans my 90 year old Mom's favouite with a Pinot grigio. Surprised the House has cask conditioned ale on tap. And it is delightful. Not many placed in Ontario offered this to customers. The staff are amazing to boot.

It was only by moving to Cabbagetown a few years ago that we discovered the HOP. Great food, menus, ambiance and just plain great place in the hood. There is something for everyone.

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
