For me, as well as, I am pretty certain for many others, The Coffee Mill Restaurant was the Queen of dining in the Yorkville district of midtown Toronto. Unfortunately, I have to use the past tense. This icon restaurant had its final business day on Sunday, September 7, 2014. It opened in 1963, enjoying over half a century of business... More

Been going for years, always fantastic food! It is an iconic place in Toronto! I always have the schnitzel and my husband the goulash. So darn good. And the desserts! Yikes, the desserts are fantastic for everything but the waistline!

Great little room. One of only 2 Hungarian restaurants left in the Toronto downtown area. Stick with the Hungarian items on the menu - they're very very good. The non-Hungarian items are average.

We visit the main cafe: there is a mini cafe adjacent. The Coffee Mill is a great place to enjoy hearty Hungarian food in a comfortable environment and setting. They display original art on the walls and have a wonderful violinist playing in the evenings. Friendliness of the wait staff, I find, often depends on friendliness of the patrons and... More

On this cold winter day we needed something to warm us up and decided to go to "The Coffee Mill", a 50 year establishment in uptown Toronto. We had chicken schnitzel with dumplings and beef stew with mashed potatoes. The chicken was very tender and the beef stew was cooked like a sort of boeuf bourgignon....Both dishes were excellent and... More

As a resident of Toronto for 34 years, this has been a frequent and much loved haunt. This gem is really the only survivor of the legendary Yorkville of the 60's. That was a time when young performers such as Joni Mitchell, Murray McLauchlan and Sylvia Tyson packed the many coffee houses that graced the neighbourhood. For those familiar with... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Midtown
Midtown is a dynamic part of Toronto with some of its most stylish high-rise residences and heritage buildings. The area sees busy shoppers with bag-laden arms balancing lattes in paper cups as they travel from one luxury brand to the next, taking advantage of the proximity of high-end shops. The reflecting pools, jogging trails, and nature treks of the Rosehill Revision are always a hub of outdoor activity, and after a workout from either running or splurging, many take advantage of the spas and massage parlors Midtown has to offer. Away from the bakeries, boutiques, and glamorous old theaters of the district's center, locals use the weekend to embrace the more suburban feel of Midtown's parks, tennis courts, outdoor markets, and the manicured grounds of Casa Loma, while families indulge the area's state-of-the-art playground and learning facilities. Of course, no high-brow district is complete without a healthy counter-culture: Midtown boasts some of the wildest street art and full-wall graffiti of any neighborhood in Toronto.
