The quiet, well-appointed, dignified setting could not be more pleasant (don't show up here in tank top and flip-flops). The staff are friendly, impeccably trained, attentive without being obtrusive--the equal of any in my experience (which includes Michelin star establishments). Unfortunately, the food is completely unremarkable. Though the romaine lettuce in the ceasar salad was of top quality, the dressing... More

The right texture, right tenderness and the right quality for a steakhouse. Quiet yet upbeat ambiance, nice environment, great service. Will visit again.

This is a traditional steak house with an American flavor. Dark paneled decor, formal setting where the food is the star. The steaks are all good, large servings and cooked to order. The sauces and sides are all generous and the range of starters is extensive. The wine list is very good with a large variety delivered via ipad for... More

Very traditional old-school steak house. Dark interior, lots of wood, traditional steak and seafood menu. Excellent service and knowledgeable waiters. Waiters make excellent Caesar salad at your table. Waiters wear jackets that are not traditional suit or tux type but rather more like smocks worn by floor traders in stock market. Maybe that's inspired by being located in financial district.... More

The cocktails and bar food was outstanding, (thank you Lonna). However the three meals we had were not as good as expected. I had the Steak Au Poivre which was absolutely excellent BUT the Brussel sprouts were terrible as they were old and very dry. I couldn't help but think the Brussel sprouts were left overs from the day before.... More

A few of us wanted to see Shiraz Tayyeb's band, The Jade Monkeys, which was playing from 4:30 to 8:00 PM at Hy's. I wasn't in the mood for red meat, but I thoroughly enjoyed the caesar salad and sharing the fried calamari. The place was very gracious in permitting our friends to share a rib steak and they each... More

Place looks nice but that about it. Steaks and baked potato were barely lukewarm. Filet mignon was tasteless and porterhouse is very chewy and half of it was fat. $300 for 3 people just for the main course and not one of us had anything good to say about their dish. Keg is much better for half price

Since 12 years am every year in Toronto for PDAC Convention and tried a lot of Steakhouses. This year i went to Hy's after a recommendation for the first time at lunchtime. Ordered a Ribeye medium rare which was more than medium. The mushrooms on side were not very tasty as well.

10 years ago a business associate from the UK and myself were at Hy's for dinner. We had a great meal & evening. He was back in town - now hailing from South Africa and we immediately decided we needed to reunion at Hy's. I'm glad we did! We both remembered a brilliant evening from 10 years previous - a... Staying in Downtown West

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown West
Downtown West is home to Toronto's gorgeous Inner Harbor, and is a must-visit for lovers of art and the outdoors. The area's rich cultural heritage is celebrated by a number of monuments and museums, giving the neighborhood a mature feel. As a premier destination for modern art, people here stroll through the cool contemporary pieces at the Power Plant, enjoy the outdoor installations along Queen's Quay and Canoe Landing, and picnic among the zany designs of the Toronto Music Garden. The waterfront itself is often suffused with bikers and joggers, and the harbor is always packed with classic ships with masts raised. The vintage boats and ferries to the Toronto Islands make for a charming contrast against Downtown West's backdrop of skyscrapers, condos, and food trucks serving up hot, fresh fare to locals on the go. The area has a peaceful energy, and is popular with tourists and Torontonians alike.
