I visited Hiro Sushi about eight years ago and thought the food was excellent. So I was really disappointed when I visited again last week. My wife came for an early dinner and were the only guests at the time. We both had the omakase which is a selection of dishes decided on by the chef. As Chef Hiro prepared... More

we tried omakase 3 course meal for 65 dollars per person. after 1st and 2nd course, we had to wait about 30 minutes, at which point we asked a waitress if our 3rd course was ready. To which, she said, now they were about to start making it. WHAT? Not only this, they kept on asking if we want more... More

A hidden gem. When you walk by you don't see the seating in the back for guests. The staff was attentive. The atmosphere was lovely and the food was very good. It was definitely more expensive than expected in that the food portions are very small. We would go again but more so for an occasion than a quick bit... More

I have always loved Hiro, but hadn't visited for years. I came across it while on an errand, and was delighted to find that it is as good as always. The decor is fresher, and the sushi has always been exquisitely fresh, impeccably presented and delicious. Hiro makes all the sushi himself and is quick to greet you during the... More

Great experience but truly pricey. I was the first in the restaurant and an regular ojisan customer came in. I listened to their convos and hirosan asked if I was Japanese. I said I wasn't but I understood so he causally chatted with me and throughout the meal asked if the food was good. Great experience might go again for... More

wonderful experience in this very traditional Japanese restaurant... just be careful as authentic means lots of Wasabi in their sushi. If you are used to "americanized" version of sushi, this might come as a surprise! my colleague had black cod which was amazing.

I've been to Hiro before and I was surprised to see I hadn't done a review. For my wife and I, this is the restaurant we pick as our "special place". You know, that restaurant that you have when you want to treat yourself to a really nice meal? You know, that restaurant that you always have a great memory?... More

This is an authentic Japanese sushi restaurant that has the freshest sushi you can get in Toronto. The appetizer selection is somewhat ordinary with a few exceptions like the baked persimmons which is delicious and highly recommended. My friends and I opted for the appetizer and sushi tasting menu for $65 and was very full at the end of the... More

I have been going to Hiro Sushi for many years. It is the best Sushi Restaurant I have visited. I have always had the Omakase at the Bar. Hiro is attentive and I think he caters to individual tastes though I am not certain. He definitely seems to cater to mine! Fish I would never eat, anchovies, mackerel taste great... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
