We had a great dinner at Via Norte and the food was so flavourful. There was quite a large selection including the day's specials. The portion sizes for the meats were surprisingly large and the starters were delicious. The service overall was very good although a tiny bit slow at times which was surprising as the restaurant was not full.... More

Had never been to this restaurant but based on the reviews decided to give it a try. We are from Florida and were visiting TO on a golf holiday. We were quite familiar with the restaurant scene on College having lived in Toronto for 4 years and are fond of Portuguese cuisine. So it was off to Via Norte. The... More

My wife and I went out for our 20th anniversary to enjoy wonderful Portuguese food. The best part was how wonderful our waiter Udo was. We told him our plans of visiting Portugal and he was so exited to help us find all the great place to see, eat and visit. Thanks Udo you made our 20th very special.

Was there with a friend for dinner during Summerliscious. Server was Udo, very keen on helping with the menu, wine suggestions and anything to do with Portugal. He chose the wine, which was fabulous and not overpriced. Dinner was good I had the cod salad and the fish entree - everything was delicious. Vanilla creme brûlée for dessert was excellent.... More

Went to try this restaurant out during Summerlicous. Our server was Udo. He was charming and attentive, making excellent suggestions on what to order. The food was fresh and expertly prepared. This would be a lovely place for a date or a large gathering.

Three of us ate at Via Norte on Saturday night, July 9, 2016. The restaurant was participating in Summerlicious and was offering a three course menu, which we tried. Each of us tried a different combination, and everyone liked what they chose. Our waiter was helpful and attentive. We will return.

After reading such rave reviews I had very high expectations. The appetizers of Grilled Sardines, sausages and Calamari were excellent however all of our main courses were underwhelming. I would say they lacked seasoning. No question all ingredients were fresh and presented well but there was a little something missing. The restaurant was also very quiet for a Saturday night... This restaurant offers 5star-quality food. This is typical Portuguese food with a modern twist. Dinning tasty, sophisticated and elegant place, nice staff ... One of the best dinning experience Ive ever had. Squid, Grouper and Bitoque are my faves! Crème brûlée and white chocolate flan are the most delicious desserts Ive had in long time. I saw the top choice... More

We turned up just before closing time and met the lovely owner who offered to cook for us anyway. It was amazing food. Had one seafood and one meat course - so tender, flavoursome and delicious. Best meal in a long time!!!!

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
