The food at Kothur is pretty good & the ambiance needs a good work. They play Indian music very loudly, i fail to understand if the music to for the guests or to boost the servers. Anyhow i was a little disappointed the other day i went for lunch with some friends. The lunch menu mentioned one dish of our... More

Real indian food, real indian people (serving, but also eating!), clean, kind, very welcoming. Three dinner in a row, no reason to search for better places for indian plates in my personal experience. Their aloo gobi is perfect, soups great, lentils cooked as they should, no added ingredients to be more palatable to westernians, a place to go if you... More

I hate to pull down a restaurant, specially one which serves reasonably good and authentic Indian food. Kothur was a disappointment not because it is small and cramped, but because of the attitude of its Indian owners or at least the people who run this particular restaurant. First there is a basic decency that if you are closing, you inform... More

Yes the food here really is authentic southern Indian food . The patrons who eat here are mainly Indian which is always a good sign . Just a small hole in wall place that is unpretentious & serves up great home style Indian food that will keep you coming back for more.

I went with a friend. We had: palak paneer, aloo gobi, raitha, naan, and tamarind rice. It was all super delicious. It did not take too long and we were not rushed out after we were done. I will go here any time I am back in this area!

Kothur downtown #Toronto is certified South Indian. Chettinadu chicken takes me back to India! Order extra coriander.

The value starts with the service by people who enjoy their work. It continues with cold water served in a copper picture without asking. The value of course carries over into the excellent multi-course meal for about $10. When I ask for hotter or spicier than usual they know how to accommodate, make me sweat and keep it flavourful. It... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
