Sorry folks this restaurant is now closed But it did present high quality dim sum without the MSG ! I don't think people realized this & that they didn't cheat with flavours but gave you high quality ingredients & at good prices. We are all so used to that MSG rush in many Chinese restaurants that when a restaurant is... More

Came here to sample the menu. At first we were underwhelmed by the flavours compared with normal yum cha. It lacked that flavour "hit". However as more dishes came out, this was a similar case. They all looked like normal yum cha dishes, but did not taste like normal until I figured out that they do not use msg in... More

WARNING: DO NOT GO! SAVE YOUR MONEY! GO TO CHINATOWN! I went on a Sunday to have dim sum with my wife. This place looked very cozy and the menu looked like it had a lot of options. However, when we sat down and ordered. It took 20 minutes for the first dish to come and it was just the... More

Are you a fan of the cheap, greasy, deep-fried Saturday morning dim sum you get in Chinatown? Then don't come here. Stick with the hung-over guys at Rol San. This is more refined dim sum - with prices to match. It's not quite the quality of (the greatly missed) "Lai Toh Heen", but it's close. Skip the usual dim sum... More

The food ranged from okay to quite good, but being served soup with someone else's lipstick clearly visible on the accompanying spoon put an end to any enjoyment of the meal. The service was very off-hand and the apology for the dirty spoon lacked any real sincerity. I definitely won't be returning.

If you're on Yonge Street and must have dim sum, I suppose it's an option. But I'd rather be in Chinatown and get really outstanding dim sum. The dumplings and shao mai were quite tasty. But the main courses were very bland and unimaginative. We did get served perfectly steamed, piping hot rice. That was the highlight of the main... More

Staff were very pleasant but food mostly bland & disappointing. Har Gow small & tasteless. The rice noodle shrimp rolls also disappointing. The steamed chicken & rice totally bland. Vegetable spring roll done differently but good. Sesame balls were nice.

Cold windy night in Toronto. I crossed Yonge to try this place. Chinese tea $1.15, Tsingtoa $5.95 Cuttle/fish balls $4.95 Chicken and enoki mushroom dumplings $3.95 Jumbo Shrimp Garlic over grid Rice special $14.95. Fish balls and shrimp were good, but the Chicken and Mushroom dumplings were spectacular - excellent mix of the ingredients in an "El dente" dumpling. There... More

My girlfriend and I go for Dim Sum often and loved finding this restaurant right on Yonge. This place is modern with great decor and dishes. The food is hot, fresh and flavourful. We go every time we stay down at the T.

I have never written a review before about any place, but after how I got treated at Cha Lau tonight, this is the first thing I did after getting home. I arrived at around 9:30pm on a Friday night. There was one other table occupied and 2 waitresses. I am not really good at reading Chinese and when I asked... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
