Went there for lunch and returned for dinner the next day. The waitstaff is brutally honest about their menu (one told me she found the chicken pot pie too creamy . . . I ordered it regardless, but she was right) and then had the cod the next evening. Both are well good dishes done with thought and precision. The... More

It has the feeling of being a small family owned restaurant. You expect the chef/owner to come out of the kitchen at any moment. The food is good, fresh and certainly plentiful for the cost.

This small restaurant located in the Toronto financial district is totally different to other restaurants. You feel like home, the staff is very friendly, no pressure. The menu has delicious alternatives for Fodies. I try a pate as appetizer and a the steak with spinach and feta cheese as main course, my wife choice a Cesar Salad and the risotto.... More

On a recent 4-day trip to Toronto, we tried out several restaurants and the Gabardine was my favorite. It's all about the cheese. I had the hot pimento beer fundido dip and it might be the best thing I've eaten - ever. My daughter had the grilled cheese and I got to have a bite, it was so much cheesy... More

A group of us went there on a recommendation from a friend..... Great choice, as the food was delicious and our server was very efficient and attentive! We had the chicken pot pie which was outstanding, the fish tacos and the fish dish of the day. Folks who had the fish of the day raved about it. The fish tacos... More

There for dinner twice two weeks ago and experience could not have been better, friendly and accommodating staff, cozy and comfortable surroundings but best of all great food. Small but very good wine list that topped off two fantastic evenings.

A nice ambience, although the tables are literally on top of each other. You better be a "people person" to sit in many of the sections. Wait staff is cordial but really do not go much further other than stiff disinterested inquiries as to your satisfaction which seemed more dutiful than engaged. The menu itself was diverse with lots of... More

This classy hipsterish spot in the middle of the land of suit and tie guys is fantastic. Service was unhurried and professional and we started with the most impressive Mac & Cheese ( must add giant chunks of ham) i've ever seen! Fish Tacos were great too and somehow we found room for an Italian donut... Homer would drool over... More

This restaurant is run by amateurs. The wait staff are totally not friendly or interested in making your dining experience a good one. Unfortunately the food does not speak for itself. This is average food at downtown prices. Do not rest your elbows or hands on the table - you may lose them when a hot dish comes flying across... More

As with any dining experience, a bad server can really ruin your experience. This was the case with my most recent visit to The Gaberdine. I've been here a few times and really enjoy the food and ambience. But our server last night just had no interest in being our server. It really soured the evening as it was very... More

Staying in Downtown West

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown West
Downtown West is home to Toronto's gorgeous Inner Harbor, and is a must-visit for lovers of art and the outdoors. The area's rich cultural heritage is celebrated by a number of monuments and museums, giving the neighborhood a mature feel. As a premier destination for modern art, people here stroll through the cool contemporary pieces at the Power Plant, enjoy the outdoor installations along Queen's Quay and Canoe Landing, and picnic among the zany designs of the Toronto Music Garden. The waterfront itself is often suffused with bikers and joggers, and the harbor is always packed with classic ships with masts raised. The vintage boats and ferries to the Toronto Islands make for a charming contrast against Downtown West's backdrop of skyscrapers, condos, and food trucks serving up hot, fresh fare to locals on the go. The area has a peaceful energy, and is popular with tourists and Torontonians alike.
