This restaurant has around for a while but even thought it's just down the street from us, we never tried it out. Bad decision making on our part. Anyway, we stopped in for dinner earlier this week and it was terrific. The fare is simple Italian — pizza, traditional pasta dishes, etc. — and inexpensive. The atmosphere is comfortable, relaxed.... More

The food is wonderful (have the spigola!) The staff is friendly. It has a nice bistro feel and it's NOT NOISY.

Love Prop, the food is amazing, Chef John Carlo always delivers, and Host Marlene is always accommodating and friendly. Do yourself a favor and go Asap!

Prop is like a second home for our family. Remember the show "Cheers"? It's like that. When we come in we are welcomed with hugs and kisses from Marlene, one of the owners. Her husband Giancarlo (of Giancarlo's, College Street Bar and Olive & Lemon fame) blows us kisses through the kitchen window. We always find something delicious. From the... More

After a long night of travel (missed trains, etc.), I stopped at Prop for a meal only to find the kitchen was closed. The waitress had the chef double her dinner order so that I could eat as well. What wonderful hospitality, and what delicious food (pasta with fresh mushrooms)!

Six of us ventured to Prop for a summer evening dinner. Practically everything about the place was bad even for a local bistro. Hard to believe that they can get away with this in a sophisticated city like Toronto. The service was acceptable but the food all around the table was not. They can't even seem to make a decent... I have to say I am surprised by some of the reviews here. I try to go to PROP at least once a month, as I suddenly get cravings of their food. Their rigatoni in a creamy saffron lemon sauce is just to die for and the kids love it! My husband is crazy about their grilled whole fish (which... More

I have been a number of times here to give them a chance to improve but it is time now to rate this place. The waitresses have tried very hard but being a waitress is not their forte. Forgetting what you ordered twice; one time the soft drink and one the milk for the coffee. The owners are nice but... More

This is owned by the original Giancarlo, so you can get the same quality without the cost or pretension. The grilled fresh fish is done simply with herbs and olive oil to perfection. And there are always delicious pastas to choose from. Sometimes the service is a bit iffy, but you aren't paying for top service here. And the wine... More

Staying in York-Crosstown

Neighbourhood Profile
York-Crosstown is a sleepy area of Toronto dotted gorgeously with hills and farmland, stately homes and parks. An affluent district in parts, the stately houses at Baby Point along Jane Street are especially breathtaking, and make for a lovely wander on a clear day. Parks are bountiful in York-Crosstown, which makes it a vibrant area for outdoor play and sports, providing a break from the hustle of Toronto's busy, jam-packed city center. For a little spice after a walk in the park, the Little Jamaica area of York sports cheap, authentic food from the Caribbean. This area is restful and more orientated towards outdoor activity and the exploration of nature.
