Before I start this review I would like to make one thing perfectly clear; the food in this restaurant is amazing. We were there for a late Saturday lunch. We started off with an appetizer of Spicy Tempura Shrimp, which were delicious; crunchy and juicy with a perfect sauce. I had the Chicken Tempura for my main course. The chicken... More

Not fancy, this hole in the wall restaurant features some of the best sushi I have ever eaten. Always perfect fish with perfect preparation, Shinobu is the go to place for my wife and I. The sashimi combo is always a hit with whoever we take there and the donbury is also exceptional.

More or less a somewhat typical sushi place. There are some interesting creations here, but you are likely to leave feeling hungry despite having spent a decent amount of money.

Recently went back and was so happy to find that the food was back up to it's previous level. Still one of the best real Japanese restaurants in Toronto - everything prepared with attention. The lunch set menus are particularly good value. For a more authentic experience try a al carte - the torched mackerel, miso nasu, any specials of... More

Finally made it here for lunch after reading all the great reviews. I also took the advise from the reviews to make reservation. The place was all reserved when we got there at 11:30am so we were very lucky and lots of people walked in without a reservation and there was no table for them. The place was very small,... More

Always friendly, always great tasting fresh and creative sushi. We have not had better in Toronto, and you can't go wrong here....just ask the regulars who come. The volcano roll, the dream roll, the lobster roll and if you like salmon ask for the off the menu Jonah roll. If your server doesn't know about it, ask for Mieko because... More

Tons of sushi places in Toronto, when your not looking to stuff your face with all you can eat. This is a great alternative, very authentic food similar to that I found in Japan.

I'm really sad to write this, as this restaurant has been one of our favorites for a few years. But, after a few recent dinners of less than stellar quality sushi, and a particularly disappointing one this past Saturday, have to update my previous review. Meal could be good, but also can be pretty abysmal - definitely not worth a... More

We went here for lunch on a Saturday. My understanding is that they are not always open for lunch but do offer limited hours on Saturdays (at least). The lunch specials were excellent and really good value. The ones we had came with chicken, rice, miso soup, salad, eggplant, tofu and 4 pieces of sushi rolls. The chicken was excellent... More

Staying in North End

Neighbourhood Profile
North End
The North End is a nucleus of specialty food restaurants and shops, especially around its Mount Pleasant Village area. Frequented by antiquers for its numerous collectable shops, furniture spots, and oddity stores, the North End is a maverick of the quaint and quality. Vintage toy stores, accessory shops, and cinemas welcome perusers to step back in time, while the wide pedestrian squares and the large medical and business community inject it with a dose of modernity. With numerous cafes and Toronto's greatest number of independent booksellers, it isn't uncommon to see folks in this area at their leisure, reading outdoors and in eateries, and taking life a bit more slowly – even if it's only during their lunch break.
