I never give 5 stars to a restaurant but this has become one of my favorite spots to dine in Toronto and I always pay a visit when in town and am never disappointed. The pizzas are creative and delicious with very fresh toppings, but the crust could be slightly crisper if I'm being picky. My friend who doesn't like... More

A really nice little restaurant in the Village. It is not much to look at from the outside, but it is pretty big inside. Service is really good with a good selection of wines, and the mostly Italian inspired dishes are impressive. It doesn't get much notice in Toronto's crowded food scene, but it is as good of an Italian... More

I have wanted to visit this restaurant for months since I moved to the area. I was not disappointed. I only write reviews of places that impress my by exceeding my expectations. Sambucas doesn't look like anything special from the street, but it is special in every way once you experience the food and service inside. We were greated by... More

We dropped in for lunch at the end of the Winterlicious period. We were early and the place was empty when we got there but by the time we were finished it had filled up. It's a popular place, with good reason. There were several selections available for the Winterlicious menu and both of us were more than pleased with... More

Lovely dining experience, great service and the food was reasonable and oh sooo good. The portions were solid and a large size, be prepared to go when you are hungry because you will be fed well. I highly recommend and will be going back again and again!

After my hair stylist made this surprising recommendation, I keep going back and keep enjoying the experience! I had never heard of Sambucas despite often being in the area for business. Every dish my guest and I have had have been outstanding. Special note of the calamari and the various risottos. The fixed price 3-course menu is outstanding value. Service... More

I've been going to this establishment for years and have not once been disappointed by the food that is served at extremely reasonable prices, including a great weekend brunch menu. Friends who live in the area but had never been, assuming it was an exclusively gay venue, as it's located in the heart of the village, were delighted to experience... More

Definitely the consistently best restaurant in the Village. Other restaurants seem to have as many off days as they have good days. The service at Sambucas is always fast, efficient and friendly. There is an extensive menu with daily specials and fix prix menu. I have always enjoyed my choice. Try the chicken supreme. Reasonable prices.

The exterior is unpretentious and I must have driven past a hundred times without noticing this neighbourhood bistro. But once one ventures inside the interior reveals it will easily seat 100. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The bar serves excellent cocktails and wine. The food is terrific. We shared a huge grilled pear and baby spinach salad for starters.... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
