I've been to Chu Shing many times but never for Peking Duck and never on an early Friday evening. Both were a pleasant surprise! Apparently lots of people have a tradition to go there on a late Friday afternoon, and quite a number of people were there when we went early, around 6 pm. As a result, there was a... More

A Chrismas Day Salvation! We were in Ottawa on Christmas Day, hungry, cold, looking for something to consume while all the city was practically closed. In our desperation, we walked to the local Chinatown, where the rumour said that the restaurants were open. Indeed so! After noticing some other seemingly hungry people rushing into a building close to the Chinatown... More

Have been going to this restaurant for years and keep going back. Great selection of dim sum at reasonable prices. Service is friendly and prompt.

This restaurant is not the greatest for atmosphere and service but the food is quite good. And it certainly does not look anything special from the curb. We were a large group and ordered a variety of plates for everyone to share. We had a large round table with a large lazy susan so it was easy to pass things... More

Had not been to Chu Shing for a number of years, so we decided to give it a try for dim sum. From the minute we entered the door, the experience was underwhelming. The environment is huge, open, stark and almost unpleasant. Fortunately, we had a view of the beautiful Chinatown gate out the window. Although the restaurant was not... More

I have eaten here twice recently for a set banquet style dinner menu and had a vastly different experience. The food is either very good or...NOT!

With limited time available, our visit to Ottawa's China town became a late night one (11 pm!) The Chu Shing was just about the only place open and was itself showing signs of closing - the solitary table of diners were finishing as we arrived. We ordered fired rice and vegetables, which were OK, and a good size for the... More

I've only ever been here for dim sum, but its our go-to place. Sometimes you have to wait a bit for a trolley to come around, but it's part of the experience. (You can also ask the servers walking around if you are looking for a specific dish that hasn't come by on a trolley) Steamed pork buns and shrimp... More

This is the best dim sum lunch in Ottawa without fail. It is served from trolleys in traditional style. Really piping hot towers of baskets fresh from the super heated steamers. Mostly Asian clientel - tourist across the street. Right beside the new China Town Arch on Somerset Street on North side upstairs. Have Chinese beer and now Stella on... More

We there for a rehearsal dinner, hosted by the Chinese father of the groom. They have tables of eight and its set up in traditional style. You can ask for a knife and fork, because they have chopsticks at the table. It was very good for the large group we were in. The food was excellent - especially the Peking... More
