When asked several people mentioned Treadwell as the place for a celebration meal so we made it there for my birthday luncheon. Although they acknowledged the birthday when we arrived, there was no further acknowledgment, which surprised me because a couple that came later were celebrating their 10th anniversary, and I overheard theor waiter acknowledge in the form of something complementary, two glasses of champagne to start with I think? That would’ve been nice. My husband had the fish and chips, I had the beef tenderloin, and we shared the mushroom soup. With a glass of wine, each the total, with tip, came to $170 which explains why it is a celebration restaurant as these prices are certainly above average for lunch! The service by James B was delightful though we had to hunt him down to pay our check. The food was truly wonderfully presented and very tasty. Would I come here again? Yes, but only if there was equal festivity placed on a birthday as there was on the couple celebrating their anniversary. A bit disappointed there y’all.

Wonderful little restaurant that specializes in local ingredients to prepare utterly delicious dishes in a prix fixe four course format. The potato leek soup and the roasted lamb shoulder I had were perfection. My wife and I both had the chocolate creameaux with espresso ice cream to finish and couldn’t believe how great it was. Try the sommelier wine pairings for each course; very well worth it. Service was exceptional and they made a point of timing the meal to get us comfortably finished in time for our Shaw Festival theater performance. All in all, very highly recommended.

For Christmas, my husband gave me tickets to the Shaw Festival, overnight in a B&B and a dinner date. He booked us at then Treadwell and we were treated to an amazing 4 course prix fix meal with the wine pairing package. From the moment we were seated with the menu we knew we were in for a very special meal. We each selected different plates for each course, and none of them disappointed! Bill, the sommelier, explained each wine,, and why he selected it for our meal. They were amazing! And it was lovely to try wines from Europe as well as from Ontario. Tara, our waitress, was knowledgeable, attentive and efficient. I was thrilled that the staff were all aware of my food allergy, and was reassured at every point of the meal that my food had been prepared separately from any shellfish. What a great reassurance, allowing me to thoroughly enjoy my meal. We will definitely go again, and I’d love to sit at the bar to watch the cooking and plating of my meal. Thanks again to all the staff who made our evening special.

We made reservations for lunch after visiting Niagara Falls. We arrived at the restaurant while they were still setting up.
When we were seated outdoors the waitress provided us with water and then came back for our drink order. Something seemed off. She was either not having a good day (although she seemed to interact with the other guests just fine) or had an attitude with us. We ordered an appetizer to share and we each ordered a main dish. The appetizer of mussels came and it was very delicious. However, our main dishes did not arrive and each time we tried to catch our waitress’s eye it seemed
She pretended not to see us. After waiting and waiting we finally asked another waiter if he could check for us. Then I presume It was the manager or maitre’d came over and explained that the kitchen was backed up and our
order would come out very soon. Still waiting and no food. Finally we caught our waitress’s eye and she came over and said our food would be out shortly. Still no food arrived. We saw the waitress walk over to talk to a manager and he came to our table and told us our food would come out shortly. At that point we told him to cancel the order and bring us our check. We could not wait any longer. He was very apologetic and said he would not charge us for the mussels but only the drinks. We explained we were not looking for something for free but he insisted. So we paid for our drinks and left an appropriate gratuity and left the restaurant.
Our presumption was that the waitress never put our order in since the surrounding tables all were getting the food they ordered although they were seated after us.
It was a most disappointing experience and we would never go back to try again.

We started out with a sparkling wine from 13th street winery. Their sommelier was truly outstanding. A must in an area surrounded by wine. I will say the beginning was very hard to get service or even the sommelier, they are likely understaffed. I believe we started with a salad with a lemon vinaigrette, followed by a fried stuffed zucchini flowers with chèvre and lobster. It was very good, but very, very heavy for the second course. We had slow roasted lamb with vegetables, which was delicious. One child had a steak, cooked to order with fresh vegetables. That child was amazed with the freshness and flavor of the pattypan squash and peas. The other child ordered a portion of the gnocchi with local fresh mushrooms in a cream sauce. This dish was fantastic. It stood alone; the quality of mushrooms was key. We had a variety of desserts, all great. Great fine dining restaurant for the area.

The menu looked great. As foodies from San Francisco traveling during peak produce season, we were excited to find a restaurant that seems to promote fresh, seasonal ingredients in a tasting menu format.
We should have known something was up when the restaurant was not very busy when we arrived for our 7pm reservation. We had booked a chef's counter, which in retrospect was a big mistake.
While the food was tasty (though a bit basic in its preparation), and the ingredients were indeed fresh and seasonal, watching the head chef prepare the food with his team ended up being a big turnoff and ensured that we would not return, nor recommend this restaurant to our friends.
First, it was unpleasantly hot at the chef's counter. If you offer an elevated experience like this, the design of the space should ensure that your guests are comfortable. Instead, we were so hot we couldn't wait to leave by the last course.
Second, the chef seemed to have an attitude. While the other chefs were polite and friendly, he never acknowledged us and indeed seemed to behave aggressively when at a station in front of us, which made us uncomfortable as he was sometimes only 5 feet away from where we were dining and directly facing us and pointedly ignoring us.
The final straw was when I noticed (early on in the meal, unfortunately), how dirty his fingernails were. He was not wearing gloves and was handling food directly with his hands -- cutting bread, finishing seasoning the food, etc. While having black/brown dirt underneath his fingernails. Yech.
So....hard pass on this one.

This restaurant presents an outstanding mixture of textures and flavor in its foods accompanied by a wine pairing individually designed by their sommelier. Each dish was not only skillful in preparation but used spices and sauces that often brought out flavors that were pleasant surprises. The prix fixe meal was balanced in flavor and controlled in portions, so that the desserts were not a guilty afterthought but key to the meal. The wine pairings were excellent and not always what a relatively naive wine drinker might chose - a big cellar provided access to a range of wines which were carefully chosen and explained by the sommelier . The deserts and their paired wine were worthy ends to a fabulous meal. And, by NY standards, very reasonably priced for the overall quality.

The venue is lovely and intimate, especially the chef's counter with the view into the kitchen. There are also several nice tables with beautiful lighting and art on the walls. I'm sure the patio is lovely in the warmer months, but we were there on a chilly winter night.
The staff were excellent: attentive, knowledgeable, and sincere. We had sommelier wine pairings with a fixed price four course meal, and the choices of wine were excellent. The sommelier had a great style too, so that the wine discussions were truly educational.
Lastly, the food! Freshness and flavor really came through in the proteins and the accompaniments. Our menu was definitely rich, appropriate for winter - meaning it could be heavy for some people. The flavors were excellent - combinations that challenge the pallet a bit, and the overall experience was definitely what one would expect at a fine dining establishment in wine country. As a local friend of mine said about Niagara restaurants, some of them punch above their weight class, and Treadwell is definitely one of those!
Thanks to the young chef and his kitchen team, as well as the front of the house, for a great evening!

Everything a bit off - timing, temperature, attention to detail and training need improvement
We chose to go to Treadwell and get the wine pairing menu w the five courses. The first was fine , the second (soup) needed salt and pepper (bland) by the third our wine was coming about ten minutes before our food, so not really “paired”. By the forth (main) the parsnip purée w the short ribs was room temp at best while the rest of the dish was hot.
By the fourth, the chef was in the kitchen and on his cell phone, effectively having checked out, and the lights were going off as the couple next to us were on the fourth.
So, charging $400 for a meal, I would say timing, temperature, seasoning, and attention to the guests need to be improved. 3 out of 5 at best.
Why aren’t all wait staff trained in wine information and presentation to keep things flowing seamlessly? (as in Quebec)? I’ve been to Pierre and Pettigrew - same set up, award winning, something to aim for.

We enjoyed a pleasant dinner in Treadwell’s intimate dining room. The cosy room had a nice ambience for a romantic date and most people around us were couples. The serving staff were all very pleasant and friendly. The sommelier was quite knowledgeable about their wine selection and more generally about the region.
We found the four-course prix fixe to be reasonably priced and were happy to note that the restaurant is vegetarian friendly (with vegan options on request). They were very accommodating for special dietary needs.
The best part of the meal was the lovely plating and presentation of the dishes. The flavours were somewhat predictable, but everything was tasty; the emphasis seemed to be on satisfying guests rather than offering a creative or different experience.
Dining at Treadwell was a satisfying experience, but not one we would travel out of our way to repeat.

Incredible attentive service and we were not rushed at all. Food and wine all rolled out at the right time. The tomato/peach/basil salad appetizer was an unusual combination, and hindsight not for me. The roasted red pepper soup had a fantastic subtle kick to it. The main course hazelnut crusted chicken unfortunately arrived room temperature. The chocolate dessert with espresso ice cream delicious! Unfortunately two in our party had meals that arrived cool, and our friends from the local area felt Treadwell is not what it used to be. The staff went above and beyond to make this situation right and they were excellent.

We arrived for lunch at 1:20p (online says they serve lunch till 2pm) and we’re not greeted. When we were greeted we were told they were ‘full for the rest of lunch’. When I told her we knew what we wanted and would be a quick lunch (to split the lobster sandwich and have a glass of wine) she repeated they were full for lunch. I found this very confusing as the restaurant had two people sat at the bar and one table. I would understand if maybe they were closing lunch early but this felt more like being refused service. I had picked out this restaurant the week before our day trip to Niagara on the Lake and was really disappointed by our experience.

Elenaaramini,
Thank you for sharing your feedback with us from Sunday's visit. I'm terribly sorry for the communication error on our part. A decision was made to close 15 mins earlier than usual and that should have been better communicated to you upon your arrival. As the founder of Treadwell, please accept my sincerest apologies for our error. The last thing that I, or our team, would want is to be seen as refusing anyone service. We have shared your comments with our team so that we can better prepared if a similar situation were to arise in the future.
I'm hoping you can provide a little more clarity, however, as the times you mentioned in your review are conflicting. At 1:20pm on Sunday, the restaurant was full, with no availability at the bar. We did have two guests come in at 1:45pm looking for a quick lunch - was that you? I'm trying to get a better sense of what happened so your additional feedback would be appreciated. Please feel free to contact me at either 905.934.9797 (ext 1) or through email at james@treadwellcuisine.com.
Thank you once again for your feedback and I hope to hear from you soon.
Regards,
James Treadwell

We went to this restaurant for breakfast and there was no line up. We waited about 10-15 minutes for the hostess to acknowledge us and to be seated.
Once we were at our table no one came over to greet us and we waited another 10 -15 minutes before I hailed down a server to ask for some water. She said she was not our server, and someone would be with us shortly.
Another 10 minutes later someone else came to take our order and she said that she didn’t realize we were her table because no one told her we were there.
We ordered eggs benedict which came with Lobster. We asked if we could substitute the lobster on one of the orders for Peameal Bacon. She said that she didn’t know if it was possible and would have to ask the kitchen. We didn’t hear back from her with a response and a few minutes later, I asked her if the order was put through. She said that she punched it in the system and if the food came out with the Peameal, then we would know that it was alright.
When we received our food, there was no Peameal but burnt regular bacon on the one order. On the other order, the lobster tasted like it had been tossed in a pound of butter and another pound of butter was in the hollandaise sauce. The eggs were cold and hard boiled, the potatoes tasted like soap and the grilled tomato tasted like a chemical solution had been added.
To top it off, the server charged us double for our food and we had to wait another 10-15 minutes for them to correct our bill.
Overall, it was the worst breakfast we have ever had and I do not recommend this place for breakfast or brunch.
2 eggs benedict – $56.00
2 coffees – $9.90
2 Caesars – $24.00
Total – $101.59

Three of us very much enjoyed our meal here between two shows at the nearby Royal George. We enjoyed the matched wine pairings that selected different wines for each of us based on our individualized meal selections for each course. The food portions of the courses were good sized, not the tiny samples you sometimes experience, so value was received as well as excellent preparation and presentation. Very tasty. And there was excellent and timely service by friendly and knowledgeable staff, no sign of staff shortages here.

The menu is prix fixe, with 4 choices for each of the 4 courses, and the choices were diverse enough that anyone could choose something they’d like. As well, the pairing with wine at each course took it all to another level. The wine pours ranged from 2.5 oz and up, so just the right amount. I choose Niagara Region wines (when in Rome), and the Sommelier guided my choices in the perfect way. The food is really good, amazing. I’ve travelled the world, ate fine cuisine all over, but this was something I won’t forget. The tastes and textures and presentation were all perfect. My wife and I had a truly amazing experience.
