1st time I came here it wasn't busy and we waited over an hour for food. 2nd time was a Sunday, we booked the early lunch sitting. Seated by 12pm and we were told over the phone it would be a bit of a wait for food. Another seating was booked at 1.30pm. The people for that sitting all arrived but only one table out of the whole restaurant had eaten by then. We waited almost a full 2 hrs before we got food so the poor people booked for 1.30 didn't get seated till 2.30pm. In saying that the portions were huuuge and everything was delicious. Spoke to the owners and they said the kitchen was the problem and they were getting a new one in. Can't wait to try it when it's all set up.

We are reasonably frequent visitors to the Cannery. Unfortunately, this visit we were underwhelmed. They used to serve nice side salads but this has now become a very ordinary commercial coleslaw. However, our seafood was delicious as always. The dessert menu was limited and the chocolate waffles that I waited 20 minutes for were doughy, thick and tasteless. The chocolate ‘ganache’ was a lacklustre thick chocolate sauce, very disappointing as it was recommended by the staff as being delicious!

Last Sunday my Fiancee took myself and our family out for an early Mother's Day lunch. I requested that we come here. We have been here a couple of times before and it was perfect. This time was a different story. We usually like to order a selection of hot and cold seafood but this time around there was no cold on offer. We opted for the seafood platter for 2. The cold seafood come out first as an entree which was lovely, but that's where it stopped. The rest of the platter was a big pile of chips with an almost sweet tasting battered fish which I couldn't eat and the calamari was kind of soggy and oily, there was nothing to break the taste of the fried food other than a little slaw and I started to feel sick as it was too heavy in my stomach. The service was also very slow today. we left feeling disappointed. It was just a glorified seafood basket for $100. We are very reluctant to return. I hate leaving bad reviews and this is the first one I have ever written as I also work in the hospitality industry. Please bring back a cold crustacean platter.

A big part of the low score is the owner’s attitude. Couldn’t have cared less that our meal wasn’t overly enjoyable. When paying I reported (after being asked) that our fish didnt have much taste, was watery. Now why ask if you don’t want the answer? All she did was defend it. There are probably some other lovely dishes on the menu, but if you love great fish give the fish & chips a miss.

Lovely lunch out today with the one and only number 1 husband. Highly recommend but make sure you book unlike us we were just passing through and thought we might be lucky but the team were great and advised there was a wait and we were happy to wait and I know too well being married to a chef 1. You should always book and 2. Great meals aren't made in 10 mins like people think and I didn't think we waited too long. Look at this, absolutely fresh and beautiful. The man who greeted us, served and pretty much the all rounder, your service is what make people return. Great job

We were given a table outdoor under the shade of a sail cloth, with a great view of Boomer Island and blue waters of East Bay? All the staff we met were friendly and helpful. It was a bit after 2pm. We had half a dozen fresh oysters- delicious. 2 of the Beer Batter Fish and Chips, and one of fried Calamari and Chips. All the food was tasty and fresh- perhaps the flesh of the fish could have been a little bit less flaky. The Chips were to us- perfect regarding taste, colour, crunchy outside and soft inside and we managed to eats all our Chips. We had a great lunch.

Went down thanks to Facebook post about their special on the seafood platter. Had a booking in the second seating and found it very busy which would be good. The issue was they only had two staff, think they were the owners, working the entire front of house area so tables hadn't been cleared after people left and we had a 2.5hr wait roughly, probably not quite as long as another table, the last table. Although they provided complimentary chips/fries and even a dessert treat to take home after on the house it just wasn't enough not for the 2.5hr wait. It was dark by the time we left having gone for a late lunch ~2pm'ish. It was disappointing to say the least. It felt like either they didn't expect it and really needed at least another two staff in front of house and who knows how many they had in the kitchen but could be they needed more there as well. I'm pretty sure I won't be going back. It was definitely the worst experience I've had, if there had of been somewhere nearby to migrate to I'm sure we would but being a small town there were no other options nearby. Although they did apologise it just wasn't enough for a 2.5hr wait from order to food delivery.

I have been meaning to call in for a long time and as I travel past most Wednesdays it was great that it was opened after Covid lock down. It was pretty busy but had a coffee which was okay, fish was a little greasy but thick fish and lightly battered, maybe better crumbed if you can. But I am really looking forward to a scollop pie that I took home. Would be great for a coffee or platter in the deck - next time.

We had a lunch a The Cannery with a few other couples. Got a great spot outside looking out over the water. Clearly a small family run operations and we had hubby as our waiter, and was effective without the need for anything too posh. He kept the cans of beer and bottles of wine coming and managed to get the tucker out. Fish and chips was my selection and a popular slection amongst our group, wasn't let down as it was delicious in a simple way. The meunu was relatively small but had enough options for lunch. I think we'd been pretty good customers as they brought us out a cheese plate at the end. Great little business run by a lovely couple. Would definitely go back.

Dropped in for a ‘small’ lunch as we had an early dinner reservation. From the front of the building you do not get a sense of the food being anything great, but watching some meals come out for service our expectation quickly changed. The food was very generous in size, very tasty and served in good time. The service was great and the over all setting was dry relaxing and I keeping with the food. Would easily come back again.

We were staying near-by at Marion Bay and this was our last full day before returning to home/Sydney so decided to have a relaxing Saturday lunch. The view is amazing overlooking the Bay and the small Marina and slipway. The food was exceptional and timely around 20 mins or so to be served as my wife had the Scotch Fillet (she is non-seafood obviously) and I had the cold Seafood taste plate, both were excellent quality and taste, we were surprised as this is in quite an out of the way location. Have to mention also the Serving staff, all 3 were professional, courteous and very patient. Thank you for a lovely meal and afternoon.

The site is very good, the food, with many fish dishes, was tasty and of a reasonable quality and quantity, the 'salad' was very disappointing. The very attentive staff seemed very busy for a half full premises. A significant lack of any sound absorbing material meant the noise levels were high, one could hear others, normal conversation was difficult.

As the name suggests, this is a modern, well presented restaurant located in an older cannery complex: we found the staff to be particularly friendly and helpful. The dining area overlooks the water. It has quite a varied menu that includes many gluten free options: I went for the octopus salad and my wife the seafood chowder - both meals were good. There is a bar for beverages.

We discovered The Cannery by accident several months ago while waiting for our evening flight back to Adelaide after a week holidaying around Hobart. We were so impressed by the food, service, and location that we made a point of returning last week at the end of another Hobart holiday. Our memories of the place were confirmed. Owners are very personable, friendly, and helpful, food excellent and generous, prices very good. Even though it was late July we were able to sit on the outdoor deck area in the winter sun and enjoy a lovely view across the bay while enjoying our meal. Highly recommended, we will be back next time we are around the area.

Very unpleasant experience at this restaurant. Aside from the food being incredibly overpriced (really just a mega expensive fish and chippery), and despite the oysters coming from the local farm but tasting washed out and unfresh, the the manager was outright rude. Allocated us an hour and a half booking for Mother's Day lunch but couldn't get the food out fast enough. We were just finishing our last mouthfuls of main course when our plates were cleared and we were told we needed to leave. We still had full glasses of wine with more in the bottle. My parents would have liked dessert and coffee. I asked the manager where we were supposed to finish our drinks, could she please provide us somewhere we could sit, but she didn't give us an answer, just said 'I'm not being a bitch'. Additionally, being Mother's Day, you'd think they would have some bottles of bubbles in stock. The piccolo's on the menu weren't in stock, was offered a muscato instead. Yuck. They then said they had a bottle of bubbles but couldn't remember the name. Came back and said it was Devils Corner. We said yes please, we'll have a bottle of that. They then came back and said another staff member had opened that one bottle of bubbles to sell single glasses to others customers, but they had this other unopened bottle of sparkling rose. What the hell? I hope no one else was after a bottle, I think we got the only one left (this was at 12pm). None of us will go back there, and others in the restaurant that day expressed the same sentiment. Reading through prior reviews though, it seems this manager has form. Shame, it's a lovely venue.
