My wife and I can't say enough good things about Bistro le Coq. We are both living in Ontario and wanted to get married in Halifax as she is from the East Coast. In November 2015 we went to Halifax to scout out various venues for our dinner and reception. We met with the manager at the time, Emma and... More

Sat in the bar, loved the European atmosphere. Great personal service. Amazing wine and drink selection. Had the GNOCCHI it was AMAZING!!!! Best thing I've eaten in quite a while. Perfectly cooked, amazing mushrooms, luscious hearty cream sauce topped with cheese. Perfect execution.

This was my second time dining at Bistro le Coq but the first time eating inside. The atmosphere is very warm and welcoming and decorated tastefully a la Parisian. I started with their PEI mussels Normandine served with frites and truffle mayo. The mussels were to die for and I would have drank the sauce had I been alone. The... More

I have been 3 times to Bistro Le Coq over a period of 4 years. This says it all. IS it good_ well, it is OK. Is it bad, not really. BUT it is not a refined french food as I would expect. It is a decent place, clean, and good service. Make sure to check that the name of... More

We have been several times but don't always write about it. Great mussels to start but the charcuterie board was a disappointment. Very small and compared to Lot six down the road, a weak comparison. However, our main dishes were very good, scallops and chicken . We really like this place. The service was just okay this time as we... More

I've eaten dinner here several times and each time, I've left a little disappointed. The menu options are quite elegant and French and the wine menu is lengthy and a bit confusing. This restaurant would appeal to diners with a refined palate but there are limited vegetarian options. There is a small dessert menu but the items are tasty. The... More

The food was excellent and the service great. We enjoyed the evening and had looked at it as a practice run for our visit to France.

And this is how all of us felt after visiting this place for a quick lunch. The bistro has a nice interior, the food was excellent, the wine list is quiet extensive, the atmosphere relaxing. I'll definitely go there again. What I especially appreciate in a restaurant is a friendly and knowledgeable service. And they have that too!

Halifax is a wonderful, busy and interesting town. Many, many of its wonderful restaurants serve seafood, of course. But when you are in the mood for a different kind of cuisine try this atmospheric restaurant. It is like stepping into a Parisian bistro. The menu is varied with many French favorites, some with an interesting twist. The duck breast was... More

Found this place by accident wandering around Halifax and the four of us stopped in for what proved to be an exceptional lunch. One of our party enjoyed the daily quiche another the daily crêpe special both of which received rave reviews. The daily burger was reportedly delicious. I had the steak sandwich which at $14 was truly spectacular coming... More
