A great place to grab a beer and a wonderful feed of fish and chips (add the gravy). English Pub Style atmosphere, you may have to wait for a table but well worth the wait. Treat yourself at the Duke!

I can certainly see the appeal. A cool old pub down a set of stairs in downtown St Johns. I stopped in to catch the hockey game and have a local craft beer. I took a seat at the bar and ordered a red beer from Mount Pearl. I didn't care for it, but it might have been the $9... More

The staff, the beer, the atmosphere are all just the thing. A place that doesn't seem to strain to be cute or try too hard and effortlessly gets it right. The fish and chips are perfect; I don't even like trips, but these are irresistable (I'd probably rather not know why). Don't miss the Duke when you're in St. John's.

We'll stop by every now and then for a drink because they usually have a good beer selection here. On our last visit we were a little hungry, so we decided to try out their fish and chips. I was pleasantly surprised with how good they were, probably one of the better fish & chips I've had in the city... More

This is an old-style, Irish/English pub in downtown St John's. There's lots of beer on tap and the fish & chips is the best in the city.

I was only there once even though I'm from here but panning is not easy. The people visiting wanted the fish and chips. It was a table of 12 everyone liked their food and the service was great. Not a fancy place but great food and service.

So I am going to try to finish my reviews of my September trip to Newfoundland before the year is out! This one is easy, this is a great place for food drink and just hanging out. I felt instantly at home. The fish and chips are excellent. It will be my first food stop next time I am in... More

Great place for a drink. The atmosphere is great and the staff are efficient and friendly. They have a good selection of beer and ales. A piece of history in St. John's.

Had wings followed by fish and chips. All was great. Loved the batter on the fish. I recommend this place to anyone who wants good fish and chips.

The food was "very much average pub fare ". Bit of a boring menu; nachos were okay, fish and salad was only half consumed. Staff was happy to change TV coverage from NFL to CFL. Might be a fun place to visit on a busier night.
