We were visiting the so called Punjabi Market and decided to have lunch. Himalaya was one of the two places we found which was not empty. As far the food is concerned, you have the choice of vegetarian buffet or for a couple of dollar more a meat buffet. It is a all you can eat. The atmosphere is a... More

A very good Indian friend insisted that she host a AYCE buffet dinnerl at Himalaya (Main Street) mentioning that the Vancouver outlet is larger and more elegant than the Richmond restaurant. The buffet offered more varieties however I found that the naan at No. 5 Road and Cambie was nicer. The restaurant was very busy with take out orders because... More

We visited this restaurant on a cold rainy day hoping to get some good Indian food. It is in Punjabi Market and is operated by Punjabi's. The Punjabi food (Chana Masala & Aloo Chappati) were very good but the Buffet was average at best and the prawn curry was absolutely tasteless. Goat biryani was tasty but did not taste like... More

This is a second floor restaurant that, from the street, looks intriguing, yet easy to pass by. We were so glad to have ascended the short staircase. The owner is one of the people who takes care of you and the food is very enjoyable. The backyard tables are quiet and the space is very nice. I really recommend it.

Stopped in for a quick lunch at Himalaya Restaurant on our visit to Vancouver from California. Place had a buffet but food looked very old and if there were cobwebs over it I would not have been surprised. We ordered off the menu and enjoyed the masala dosa and fresh chapati. The paneer makhani was just average as it was... More

The momos are particularly good, and having been to nepal, very authentic. The food generally was very fresh and tasty, and the servers were lovely. Not expensive. Very gentle ambience! A very good all rounder.

Went to here cause it was close to where we were. Has there buffet an the curry chicken was excellent. The other items were average but one of the best curry chicken I have had. I would return and would recommend this place. It is a casual place and very well priced.

Staying in Little India / Punjabi Market

Neighbourhood Profile
Little India / Punjabi Market
Little India has changed in recent years. While some view it as a declining neighbourhood due to emigration and competition, it is still the original site of the Punjabi Market, and an epicentre for Indo-Canadian culture. The many textile outlets along these blocks boast endless swaths of colourful sari fabric, while the local markets and food stalls waft the savory scent of sugar and spice. Indian fast-pop breaks the quiet of the neighbourhood, as it drifts out from the windows of shops and homes, and glitzy storefronts offer bangles, jewels, and silk at reasonable prices. Join the bargain hunt and step into a world apart in Little India, which becomes especially upbeat during the summer, when celebrations and festivities take hold of its streets.
