While spending a week in Vancouver, we had a wonderful dinner before our concert at the Vogue Theater. The food was good and the staff helpful, understanding that we had to get to our concert in time. Later that week during a random walking tour we were looking for lunch and realized we were in the same neighborhood so we... More

thanks to trip advisor contributors for recommending this small Japanese restaurant! It was fantastic even though, and perhaps because, we were the only white people in the joint! Steak and thier version of "tempura" (aka breaded) shrimp was amazing!!! I don't recall having had such plump large shrimp for many years.....!!! Tuna sashimi on rice was lovely! A definite return... This place has a strange/quirky environment where the servers do a lot of singing and cheering, but it only added to the fun atmosphere of the place. The food was amazing, especially the miso cod. But truthfully, I'd recommend anything they serve. Also check out their own beer, the Guud ale, very tasty and not too expensive. We made a... More

I decided to give this place a try and was so happy that I did. I love trying places that offer something different from my usual dinner. Guu was all of this. This place is legit, local Japanese food. I think I was the only non-asian in there. No prob though. The servers were very friendly and had lots of... More

In a city/country where everything was expensive, this restaurant was a real surprise. We have been to Japan and this was like we were back! Interesting menu, great food, great service and atmosphere. And not expensive at all. I wish we had Japanese restaurants like this back home.

I've been to 3 different Guu locations and they are all amazing. Food is always great and service is impeccable. A Japanese colleague recommended it to me years ago and Guu has become my go-to place whenever I can't decide what to eat. I know that I will have an amazing experience every time. I've recommended it to so many... More

I'm not a sushi fan, but I really enjoyed Guu. Great atmosphere, great food and friendly staff. My girlfriend, who has a very discerning taste for sushi, was very pleased!

There are several Guu restaurants in Vancouver. They are authentic Japanese but they are not your typical Japanese restaurant or sushi bar. They are described as Izakaya. You are immediately greeted by the Japanese welcome chorus (and show up a bit early for lunch as it is quite small). The menu is not extensive but it is comfort food. There... More

Atmosphere is great and each Guu has its own feel to it. They are not places to slam down a plate of food and go off with a full belly. The reward here is different. You eat a bit, drink a bit, eat more, drink more, and so on until maybe two hours pass and it dawns on you that... More

Found Guu Garden on Urbanspoon, it was across the street from my hotel, decided we should try it. One friend told me there are better places to go, but we still defied him and went anyways. Turns out he was right. Typically a good sign that the food is good at an asian restaurant is that there are many asians... More

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
