Went for dinner with friends, reservations previously made as recommended. The local had the typical appearance of a Thai restaurant, not particularly elegant & quite crowded. The menu is large. Started with a pre-ordered appetizer - purple yam lotus dumplings that were outstanding: sweetness, spice & texture, topped by roasted garlic . I have never tasted anything like this dish,... More

Deeply disappointed. The moment I walked in I knew it was not authentic when the staff spoke Chinese. The pad Kaprao prao Nua tasted like Chinese beef in oyster sauce with onions and green papers, with just some basil leaves and chilli added to make it Thai. The candy provided with the bill was Chinese... One glance around the room... More

This is the first Thai restaurant in Vancouver. It opened in 1984. I obsessed with it for the firs few years and then did not go back for a while, Had dinner there recently and was very impressed with their food and service.

I frequented this restaurant over a decade ago and it was awesome back then and it is still excellent food and service. Definately worth visiting if your in Vancouver.

Many Thai restuarants have opened in Vancouver since Sawadsee opened years ago, but none compare. Always full, so reservations are a must. Recommend Tom Yum Papaya Salad, chicken swimming rama and pad green beans.

Have tried other Thai restaurants and this is consistently the best. Must make reservations as restaurant is always busy. Only open for dinner, not lunch. Great menu and they try to maintain consistent quality so recurring customers are not disappointed. Appreciate how much work goes into each dish.

I've been to this restaurant about 3 different times in a span of 1 year 2016/2017. I've never been disappointed each time. I really love their crispy wonton appetizer, it actually has a good size of meat inside and not an empty bite! Their "tiger beef" is very tasty and this dish is like a steak with a nice dipping... Huge menu with tons of options. Everyone in our group ordered one of the chef's specialties, and we were all treated to a wonderful meal. Very flavorful with fresh ingredients. I really liked the Pad King Tofu, but the noodles in the Pad See Ew had a fantastic taste and was better in my opinion (although one in our group... More

Had a wonderful dinner here with friends and we all ordered something we had never had before and then shared. It was amazing. Black rice cake for dessert which didn't really appeal to me but I have changed my mind! So good. So dive in and enjoy. You will not be disappointed.

Maybe I am spoiled, I spend 30 days a year in Thailand... So I was excited to try this restaurant. The food just seemed bland, it is missing the true Flavors of Thailand. I was not impressed with the steamed rice, it was clumps in the rice. Overall this was just a so so meal, I would not go back.

Neighbourhood Profile
South Main
South Main, or SoMa, is a neighbourhood in upswing. Inhabited by young humanitarian professionals in converted lofts and studio apartments, what was once an industrial centre is now a wellspring of vintage and eco fashion shops, contemporary sawdust-floor galleries, craft beer joints, and basement acting studios. All set to an Art Deco background with a strong blue collar sensibility underpinning each new pop-up and foodie trend, SoMa is on the rise.
