I was reminded recently of just how good the food is at La Quercia. As far as I'm concerned, all other Italian restaurants are second place to this restaurant. Constantly, we find ourselves back. Why? Because the menu is constantly changing, to different regions of...Italy, but featuring local ingredients. The agnolotti is always to die for, and I'm still haunted by this duck breast I had years ago, that blew my mind multiple times. I had it only once, and I'm desperate to have it again. I recently visited another italian restaurant that you could say is the new rich kid on the block. Well, expensive furnishings and flashy cutlery with wax stamped menus will only get you so far. They don't come close to La Quercia when it comes to the food. Personally, I cannot wait to go back La Quercia. Literally booking a reservation as we speak!More

Went for a special birthday dinner. Had called and asked twice before we went if there were vegetarian options and was told yes. When we arrived, only one vegetarian dish was available on the menu and it wasn't something I wanted. I asked if they...could make risotto, but was told only if it was for 2 people. My partner wanted the fish on the menu and not risotto, so they wouldn't make it just for me. I was told I could have pasta with tomato sauce or a gluten free gnocchi, neither of which sounded very good or was something that I would pay a high price for. I was looking forward to a lovely dinner out and was so disappointed. We left and went somewhere else instead. The server was very lovely though which is the only reason I gave this two stars.More

For a special birthday dinner this was a disappointment. None of the staff wore masks. They’re now “optional”, but this was well below our comfort zone. Staff was in close proximity at various points through dinner...ordering, serving. Food was below expectations, especially the suckling pig...with cherry reduction. Three small samplers of cuts. In fairness, we should have commented at the time...but really didn’t seem to have a say as to our mask/no mask preference.More

My wife and I were delighted when we discovered many years ago La Quercia. Since then we've had fond memories on a few visits. In many ways we liked to call it our favorite restaurant. Recently, we visited and the experience was underwhelming. The service...was attentive and friendly. We tried a sampling of the menu and the food was good, but not great. Okay, really. Nothing memorable nor anything to tell friends about. The experience seems to have lost its charm. Not sure if its the restaurant; or we've just moved on. Unfortunately, we won't be going back.More

We made a dinner reservation at this restaurant because we were fully aware of their attention to the Covid Requirements..we were fully at ease upon our arrival.. the evening was a grand success as our food was very top quality..we started with a pre-dinner drink...of Negroni and Prosecco which allowed time to review the menu..we chose to start with Scallops Carpaccio, followed by Agnolotti Dei Plin with a Duck Brest to follow and for dessert a really tasty Carrot Cake.. a very special tasty 1/2 litre of Valplicella Zenato made our time at this special restaurant a quality experience...the service was excellent..More

I knew I would like La Quercia before I even tasted a delicious morsel from its kitchen. Watching co-owners & partners, Lucais Smye & Adam Pegg work on getting the space ready to open was enough to know what was likely in store. The two...were energetic, enthusiastic, hard working & full of passion, attributes one was sure they would bring to the restaurant they opened in 2008. That they did. In the lead up to the opening, I often chatted to the exuberant, Lucais as my bank branch of BMO was there,,a friend had had a great flower shop there, & I had long walked from home to this stretch of 4th, near Alma, with our wonderful Buddhist dog, Riley, often picking up sushi from Masa’s, the sushi place LQ replaced. Plus this neighborhood included Banyan Books, an IGA & liquor store, all within a block of one another. I impatiently waited, delighted I would be able to bring my family to LQ for a multi-celebration & gifting in July - my husband’s 52nd birthday, a celebration of the milestone of safety my wonderful son & daughter-in-law had reached after the four-month mark of their pregnancy & my gifting of a nicely restored violin, which I hoped my husband would learn to play with the grandchild we were to have. Perfect place, perfect night. My husband was happy with his gift & I was delighted to expose my grandchild to this wonderful instrument, as early as the womb. They say, with the violin, one cannot start too young! Seated at perhaps its best table at the window & looked after with grace from the time we stepped in, first by Adam’s wife, a fully-fledged contributor to the enterprise, & by our server. The pasta out of the LQ kitchen was sublime. My son has loved pasta, especially bolognese, since a very young boy, when he was introduced to it by a legendary, Italian chef, Poggi, in his restaurant of the same name in Cape Town, who even came out of the kitchen to sit beside him & show him the spoon/fork twirling technique. My d-I-l also loves pasta & it is the dish most likely to come out of her kitchen. My granddaughter is also a fan of pasta, albeit she has a very adventurous palate & eats widely, - & has had an early appreciation of classical music. Clearly it was a seminal moment that July evening. I am always bowled over by burrata cheese, & the serving I had that night, now over 11 years ago, still remains with me. We retuned often, always happy with the food, service, & wine list, which is interesting, with most at reasonable prices, at low markups. Adam & Lucais have parted, now both running impressive places in new configurations. La Quercia now has a wonderful selection for takeaway, changed daily, & available from Tuesday to Saturday. They are the gold standard in our current environment of take-out: phone, pay, select a take out time that is 5 minutes apart from encountering other customers. Front door is open, your bag is on a table, greeted 6 feet from the other side by...a host, and away you go, no touching. But, the best part was the food- exceptional as we have come to know in this fabulous restaurant. We had the endive, fennel, cauliflower salad with incredible bagna cauda dressing, perfection in texture. Pork scallopine with baby heirloom carrots another exceptional dish. 5 stars all the way. It was not difficult to spot a parking space near the restaurant. We arrived at 5:45pm on a Sunday evening. A nice lady greeted us and sat us down. Our irregular shaped wooden table was facing a mini bar with double seats. We ordered two...different kind of pastas, a risotto, a hanger steak for three people. Pasta was al Dante. Risotto satisfied my crave of cheese, and the hanger steak was very tender indeed. It was plenty and the portion was generous. The bottle of red is from Northern Italy; a bit on the sour side. We were happy there as we had made a reservation at least a month ahead of time.More

We had an absolutely fabulous dinner at La Quercia. This review is actually 4.5. Everything we ordered was delicious—roasted Brussel sprouts with bacon, grilled confit of celery root, tiny but wonderful parmesan souffle (not on the menu), heavenly spaetzle and peas in a cream sauce,...and a rich pasta All’amatriciana. We finished the meal with one of their grappas from an extensive list. Our knowledgeable server could not have been nicer. It was she who suggested the parmesan souffle served with watercress, and we were happy to have ordered this savory appetizer. My only criticism is the wine list. I believe it is possible to have some good wines available for under $50 a bottle. Otherwise, I am looking forward to returning to this warm, neighborhood spot.More
